Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

Hi,
No idea if this is the right place but, while running the clean energy project every time my computer suspends the process because CPU usage is too high, it keeps reverting to the start, at this rate I'll never complete the run.

Hi snaefell, you should try to enable the "leave suspended processes in memory" option. That should keep the work unit from starting over again.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

The "Leave application in memory, when suspended] known in short as LAIM, is on the technical recommendation sheet for CEP2 [sticky, top CEP2 forum]. Generally, unless you have a low RAM fitted system, I'd always run with LAIM on, as else all tasks unload when computing is interrupted. 1GB per core is the reference CEP2 rule, though with lower it works too [other sciences need much less]. You might then though see more memory to disk swapping [virtual memory file].

Crunch On.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

CEP2 worked just 1 day and landed me for that project in the 180 days badge. Since then, nothing more. I increased the place for it on my disk space, to no avail. It is the only recent project in which I don't have the 2 years badge. I fail to understand. My machine is a brand new HP Pavilion HPEh9, running on Windows 7.

Me fails to understand either and without you providing any information to work with, I fear that will remain so. What we want to know is pretty much the same stuff we've asked you in past support requests, so please check up... device profile settings [and here the CEP2 related specifically], start up log, and any message log entries that indicate this project is being skipped when assigning work.

No single message about CEP2 seen.
However, this morning the first bit of CEP2 work appeared on my screen. Hope it is not the last one.
3GB disk space is devoted to WCG work. The RAM cannot be the problem.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

Well, let us know when the problem of not getting reoccurs, emphasizing that without BOINC startup log, and any message log indicating CEP2 related problems, there's no way to start help diagnose. Suggest you have a hard look at the device profile section quoted below in addition *which would cause messages if something is not meeting system/bandwidth requirements*:
Project Specific Settings
- Number of workunits per host for the Clean Energy Project - Phase 2?
The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 is limited on how many workunits a computer can have downloaded at a time and what minimum bandwidth the computer must have in order to receive any workunits. Changing this value from the default of 1 will override both of these restrictions.

My [test] client runs them non-stop on 1 thread, 24/7, device profile setting to have 10 in a 3 day octo-core buffer, previously, 4 in a 1 day buffer did the same.

Re: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 technical project details

@Yep: In your Device Profile on the WCG website, have you increased the setting "Number of workunits per host for The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2?" to more than the default of 1? Sekerob already suggested this!
If you leave it at 1, the WCG BOINC server may think that your Net connection is too slow for CEP2. If the value is more than 1, the connection speed test is ignored. See thread New Project Setting
(IMHO, WCG should adjust this test criterion, eg to take account of the file sizes on which the transfer speed was measured. Small files give low average speed).
