Email alert

Dear all,

I have a dedicated computer running WCG, however power often fails which leaves it turned off.

Is it possible to make an email alert, so that if the server has not gotten any updates for 24 hours from computer XXXX the server will send an email alert to the account holder?

Best regards,

Anders Petersem

Re: Email alert

Hi,

Would be technically possible I think, but how many would want that to justify the development and then, an opt-in function?

Till then, you can see on the My Grid Device Statistics http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewStatisticsByDevice.do when the last result was returned by timestamp. Since we have so frequent just seconds long power outs down here, got meself a couple of cheap UPSses, which actually happen to last 30 minutes for the quad, then on power on will tell the PC to start up again.

Re: Email alert

Does anybody know how to setup a PC to automatically turn on when there has been power off?

Are there anyway I can set it up in BIOS?

Re: Email alert

Yes, you should be able to set that up in the bios.

Also, if you want to have something that'll email you if your computer is not on. You can set up your agent to allow remote_gui_rpc. Then write a script that runs ever x minutes to query the other machine using something similar to this

boinccmd --host <yourmachine> --passwd <guipasswordyousetup> --get_state

If you get a response, then the machine is still up and running, if not, email some address.

For this to work you would need a secondary pc that is not on the same power system as the other.
