Completely removing BOINC / unable to set local preferences to run at certain times

Hello. I'm having problems with my boinc installation on several Windows 7 64-bit installations. I want to set them to run only between 00:00 and 08:00 but the setting does not control the grid processes. Even the setting "While Computer is in use" does not work - the processes do not suspend, however the suspend from notification area suspends the work. I have managed to get it to work on one computer but I have no clue why this happened - the installations are identical. I also tried to remove the boinc completely and reinstall it but as it still has retained the time settings I figure the client keeps the settings and probabpy the misconfiguration somewhere else besides the registry's key Space Sciense Laboratory.

Does anybody have some ideas on how to fix this? The application is set to run on separate account as a service.

Try setting the Activity menu option to "Run based on preferences"

Thank you, it helped on 2 computers :) One one computer this still does not pause te computation when I'm using it. That's the computer that had this setting enabled from the beginning.

Boinc, Advanced View.
Activity,
. Run based on preferences
. Use GPU based on preferences
. Network activity based on preferences
Check your advanced preferences again on the system that is not doing what you want it to:
Processor usage,
Uncheck all the (computing allowed) boxes. Close and re-open Boinc if it does not take effect immediately.

If that does not work check you are using the most up to date version of Boinc.

Sven,

Can you check that the boinctray.exe is running on that resistent client. The name is misleading, nothing to do with an icon or anything in the system tray. It is needed to sense mouse & keybaord activity and should install automatically. BOINC wont start it up when launched, rather a run command in the registry does this.

Re: Completely removing BOINC / unable to set local preferences to run at certain times

Hi, I have the latest client and all the checkboxes like should. However the boinctray was not tunning - nevertheless it's in registry run section and I checked processes from all users. I started it manually and now it suspends activity when I'm active. I'll check at next restart if it starts up again. On one of the other computers it's working ok now after 2 re-installations. The boinctray starts up automatically there, the same applies to other computer - I think it took some time for it to adopt to new setting. Thanks!

RE: Completely removing BOINC / unable to set local preferences to run at certain times

Hi Sven,

Good to see you it's working now. Both suggestions I gave actually come from an FAQ posted some 20 months ago: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=22222

Maybe after reading you will have a 'duh' moment :D

When happy, please edit the opening post title and insert [RESOLVED] in the title, so we can let this sink.
