I wonder if there would be a benefit in having a thread where users could report visual sightings of obvious crystal?
In the PDF related to the June 15 news announcement noted in another thread, it states that some of the 20% false negatives for crystal are the result of crystal being around the edge of the image, outside the central area of interest. I've seen one image that had about seven obvious crystals, of which 5 were around the rim and 2 were just on the edge of the central area. I felt that it may or may not have been picked up by the software. Would adding some eyes to the automatic process result in some more hits? |

Dear HCC crunchers:
this is a very nice and very useful offer. It definitely could help us both to reduce our false negative rate and to increase our confidence in true positives. thank you. We will summarize the results in our progress reports. sincerely, Igor |

Thanks for your response.
If this not probably idea should come into place we need to know what were results of our WU so we can compare them with images. Hope your project is going on well especially with new app version and current boost due to only 4 active projects. |

I believe I have found a work unit with crystals.

All the work units have crystals!
The project is looking for viable crystals, for X-Ray Crystallography. None of those look viable to me. |

Clear, regularly shaped, not connected to other crystals.
----------------------------------------These look like they have potential, http://images.apple.com/ca/science/profiles/vertex2/images/sidebar2.jpg http://pcovery.com/Image/PicturesSite/pic4.png I wonder if the overall procedure will ever become systematic enough that crunchers will be calculating and fitting the electron density map, and refining the structure, these being computer intensive too. skgiven,
----------------------------------------Thanks for the examples. I think today I have one that has looks like it has potential. work unit = X0000080270441200701022009 ![]() ![]() Run time: 4.2y HPF2, 6.9y FAAH, 7.9y HFCC, 20.8y HCC, 26.0y CEP2, 26.0y MCM, 2.1y UGM, 2.0y OET WU: 4.8k HPF2, 12.3k FAAH, 12.4k HFCC, 135k HCC, 34.3k CEP2, 43.8k MCM, 4.2k UGM, 19.7k OET |

Looks like I may have another.

@ ashrader330
Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Your second posting definitely, and the first maybe, the crystals were outside the central area. |
