Powell's method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell%27s_method) is a means of finding the minimum of a multi-dimensional function (think of looking for the lowest dip in a rubber sheet). The error message means it was unable to find such a minimum in the time allowed by the programmers.

Thanks. I've seen the line:401 error message before. I've just never seen it with the powell message.
