Problem Solved! Projects Have Disappeared - BOINC Manager Not Connecting to Grid Client

This all started when I noticed that none of my five projects were accepting any work units. I tried adding additional projects with the same result.

I then upgraded to BOINC 6.2.28, which only made matters worse. My projects have disappeared and I keep getting the same error messages over and over again. The first error message says BOINC Manager is unable to connect to BOINC client - do you want to try again. After I say "yes", it still fails to connect and then gives me an error message which says to go into the Advanced mode and choose Local Host in the Select Computer option. I do all that and the endless loop starts again...unable to connect....choose local Host in Advanced mode, unable to connect, etc. I keep choosing Local Host in the Advanced mode over and over again and nothing happens.

There's nothing wrong with my internet connection. BOINC Manager and BOINC client are all in the trusted zone with my firewall Zone Alarm Free, version 9.2.042.000. I've even disabled the firewall but BOINC still will not connect. I've turned BOINC off and on. I've rebooted and nothing works.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much.

Uninstall and Reinstall and take options as per the screenshot applicable to your version in this FAQ:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971

Make sure to complete the field for the All Users. Not able to connect is probably a rights issue which is completely differently organized than 5.10 from which you probably upgraded.

Your projects are probably not lost, just your BM (boincmgr.exe) set up presently cannot see the information due failure to successfully connect to the core client (boinc.exe)

Thank you all for all the help! I did the uninstall - reinstall thing and still kept getting error messages. Then I removed all my projects and started reinstalling them and the problem solved itself.

Once again, my computer is happily crunching data smile
