Re: Saving Proxy settings

Hi,
it is exactly my "problem". I use different user for windows to overcome problems with proxy settings so I would just welcome the posssibility "Use Internet Explorer Connection Settings" and I think it would work for me fine.

Regards

Re: Saving Proxy settings

good idea, will point out one thing...

for some (I know this has happened) IE can fail to recognise that they have changed from using dial-up to broadband over LAN, setting this option but having it restricted to IE, rather than some form of general internet setting that could be programmed once only and saved by the user, could still leave some with the problem

Just a thought, but your idea in itself is excellent

Re: Saving Proxy settings

You can use a utility called ProxyPal in Internet Explorer (or IE shells such as Maxthon etc). This allows you to switch on and off the proxy settings using a button on the toolbar. You can find more details and download here.

If you are using Firefox, you can use an extension ConnectionManager. Info and download can be found here.

Re: Saving Proxy settings

The vendor software does not have a provision for saving the proxy values, unfortunately. We will add your useful idea to the list of future requests, however.

In the meantime, if you cannot find some other tool that solves the problem, you might just leave the proxy setting on or off, depending on where your computer spends most of its time. If it tries to return a result in the opposite network, the agent will simply pause. When you get back to the network that works, you can force the agent to try connect immediately instead of completing the timeout pause period as follows. Minimize the agent and then bring it back up again by double clicking on the icon in the system tray. This minimize->open sequence cancels the pause timeout. You may see a message box about the timeout, so just click OK on that.

This approach would save you the trouble of reentering the proxy data, but it would leave your computer not not fully utilized at some points in time. Although we do not recommend or support the use of the UD Monitor tool, you could try it to have two work units on your machine so that the second one could be processed when the first completes. This would let you continue crunching if there is no connection according to the current proxy setting. I would not set this up for more than about two work units, else they might get returned too late to be useful, especially if you have a slower processor.
