G’Day MOT. I’m back from a most enjoyable outing in Yosemite. The weather was perfect. Perfect is an over used term but it WAS perfect. The mornings were a bit chilly but my bed warmer worked even better than I expected. Since both of us have been to Yosemite many times we skipped the tourist thing and focused on day hikes most of the week. Despite being just 7 years my junior, I discovered my beautiful friend has a fitness level of a woman 1/2 her age. She plays golf, tennis, runs, and loves to dance (yuk!). Twice a week, she goes to her gym where she performs a workout that would kill a Marine drill sergeant. I, on the other hand, occasionally (the operative word being occasionally) go jogging on my treadmill. The first day we (she) chose a “moderately difficult” hike. While totally convinced that at any moment a bear or mountain lion would leap out and kill her, she scampered up and down the trail like one of the local Golden Mantel ground squirrels. I, on the other hand, scampered up and down the trail like a very large tortoise pulling a fully-loaded railroad boxcar. After all, I was carrying the pack. Huffing and puffing and wheezing like a rusty boiler, there were a few moments the first day where I began to wonder just why I was doing this. At one point she actually said, “Shall we stop and rest and catch our breath?” Questions like this from a woman are why I remain an unmarried man. I did think it was very sweet that she phrased it as a plural as she apparently does not have to breathe at all. I managed to answer something like, “That (gasp, gasp) would (gasp, gasp) be nice (gasp, gasp).” However, to my credit, by the second day I had completely recovered and re-learned the ability to hike, talk and breathe at the same time. I had no further problems the rest of the week other than a few sore muscles in the morning. It was a wonderful week.If you have not been to Yosemite, the vistas are spectacular ... world class. However, what I always notice is the light. From dawn to dusk the light is constantly changing and colors you have never seen before continually appear and disappear. At some point you just throw the camera in the pack as there are not enough mega-pixels in the universe to capture the beauty. There are only two negatives about Yosemite; congestion and price. You don’t notice the congestion on the back trails but in public areas it is oppressive. Transportation from point A to point B in the valley is by public sardine cans. Some of the hikers and backpackers have had no personal hygiene for a few days ... or a few weeks ... or perhaps never at all. The “aroma” in a closed public vehicle can be overwhelming. Prices are insane. You can buy a small car for what they charge for a bagel, teaspoon of cream cheese and a medium cup of caffeine. Fortunately, we brought enough supplies for 6 months. I knew my friend was a good cook. I did not realize she could be the chef in a 5-star restaurant. I was humbled just to be allowed to wash dishes. Honestly ... it was that good. The final morning is always bummer as you realize the outing will soon be over. This morning I awakened minutes before the earliest of the early birds began to sing the promise of a rising sun. Lying warm and cozy in a comfortable bed while a chilly breeze blew through the tent cabin, I commanded the sun not to rise. I could have laid there forever. The sun chose to ignore me and came up anyway. After another 5-star breakfast, we made the trip down the hill to our respective realities. As I said ... it was a wonderful week. Crunch on MOT. ![]() This is just pure poetry! Very nice! I agree a very nice written story |

Crunch on MOT. ![]() This is just pure poetry! Very nice! I agree a very nice written story Aww shucks mates. Thanks for all the kind words. All I can say is that I was in a rather good mood that day. Did I mention it was a wonderful week? I see CEP2 had a bump in the road today. Since the upload server is at Harvard, I hope they dont develop Old Mans Syndrome (cant keep it up). They did fix it quickly though but then it is a new roll out and everyone is watching. Time will tell. Is it just me but is there not something ironic about investigating plastic (oil) solar cells to reduce the use of oil? OK ... its just my warped sense of humor. Spring is back for a few days before the heat returns. So far this year the climate here is for the record books. I love it! If it would stay this way for the rest of the summer I would sacrifice a virgin ... I searched Amazon for one but they are temporarily out of stock.
