Recieved 1 WU from DDD-2. Wow! Waiting for them to get things figured out stopped a while back trying to 'trap" more WU's based on my computer configuration of partially empty cache and only having DDD-2 selected. It worked but did not want to forget to check and have idel computers as I switched back and forth to partially fill the cache so working but empty enough that I had rain buckets out.

I fared a little better. 2 DDDT-2 WUs, but one was a tiny 45 minute WU (still in PV). I'm now almost 3 hours closer to silver. One of these days.... One of the drawbacks of being on the USA west coast is that by the time I see the announcements the WUs are gone (same as with the Betas).

Cool! I just bought a "Help -- I've fallen and can't get up" system. The one I got calls 911 directly. Some call a service center who then pass on the call to your local emergency services. These require a contract and charge a monthly fee. No contract or fee with the one I got. This is what I bought.

That is cool Dave. Sounds quicker, cheaper and more efficient.

- D The technique I mentioned a while back works reasonably well if you can check your machines once a day or every other day. Between the 18th and the 22nd, I managed to snag around 100 DDDT2 WUs. My problem in the last few days is a much higher proportion of my WUs getting stuck in the PV jail. With just two machines, that normally runs pretty low for me but for the last three days, it's jumped to around three dozen WUs. Since DDDT2's run only 45 minutes to 2.5 hours on my machines, a string hitting PV will jump that rather quick. Flip side of the coin I guess. As for snagging them, run with two profiles, one for your normal project selections and the second for DDDT2 only. Be sure to uncheck "Send work from other projects", especially on the second one. Use the Device Manager link to select the normal profile on your machines and make sure they have your normal queue of work (I run 3-3.5 days). Once I have a full queue of work, I switch to the second profile (DDDT2 only) and bump the queue size to 6-8 days using the Advanced - Preferences option in BOINCMgr. Each day or so, I'll clear the Pref. settings back to the defaults and switch back to the main profile. Once the machine has a full queue again (takes just a few minutes), I'll switch back to the DDDT2 profile and the expanded queue. On the rare occasions that DDDT2 work hits, whatever time of day that is, I tend to get a decent chunk. Yes, your machine(s) can go idle if you don't check them every day or so and do the profile switching to refill the queue. It can also get unwieldy if you do it on more than two or three machines. Running other projects besides WCG on a machine can complicate things too. Yes, you do a bit of banging on the WCG servers which you may not like but then too, folks wouldn't do stuff like this if the work was there regularly. |
