I have a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, a six-core processor with hyper-threading, and 12 GB of memory. I run only WCG projects.
Should I install a 64-bit version of BOINC 6.10.x? Or the WCG 6.2.28? Any suggestions would be welcome. |

There is no best version of 6.10 yet, but 6.10.48 on my W7-64 runs pretty well.
----------------------------------------6.2.28 [32 bit only] would be a waste on a 64 bit system simple because there is a throughput gain, particularly with HCC. Note to self: Now why did I write that versions FAQ with that very same comment? ![]()

6.10.48 may be a beta, a "nightly", whatever; but it is not an official release.
----------------------------------------The latest official release is 6.10.43, see http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php, I am running successfully on two Win 7 64 bit, two Vista 32 bit, and one WinXP machine. The person who posed the question is known to me. He is an extremely capable individual, relatively conservative and skeptical in a proper scientific way of thinking. I do not think that he would run anything which is not even approved in Berkeley. And his new machine is going to be a barn burner. |

Well, I see that you are of course correct.
----------------------------------------I went to the post to which you referred. The withdrawal had to do with a bug involving GPU. This is not a problem for me. The biggest problem is that the notice was in the BOINC News Forum, from the same fellow that put the release notice there; but the release notice in the BOINC core client forum was not similarly matched with a notice of the withdrawal. I certainly do apologize, the grasshopper grovels before the Sensei. But, several points: Berkeley releases too quickly and then withdraws without proper notice. Keep the notices in one place, or at least be consistent if the notices are in more than one place. I do not have a GPU problem so for now I will stay at 6.10.43. Cheers. |

Sek-
----------------------------------------I see that Rom's notice of the withdrawal of '43 and '44 only happened yesterday. So, I am not quite so embarrassed. Moreover, I see that while ROM announced the release in News, "Ageless" also announced the release in both BOINC core client and Questions and Problems, but did not announce the withdrawal. If you look at the rundown in News, it is mostly Dave Anderson referring to news items, press, podcasts, videos, etc., not a place where I would come to get news of releases and withdrawals. |

OK, I think I got it. I should use a 64-bit version of BOINC, and the latest stable release is 6.10.18. I prefer to go with a stable release, as I'm not interested in being a tester for BOINC right now.

Come on, where is the fun in playing it safe?
6.10.36 is rock solid with AMD in 64-bit. |
