Re: Best BOINC Version for 64-bit Windows

One other thing, I just found out the Device Names I have include two entries for David-PC and one for MRDKT-PC. The MRDKT-PC is the name I was using for the HDD that went south so I would like to abort any of those that are In Progress.

As for the two David-PC Device Names, one has to be for 64 bit and one for 32 bit. When I get back to the other computer with BOINC in two different directories, I was thinking I could start the 32 bit BOINC to get access to the WUs I need to abort. I could then set that BOINC to not obtain any new WUs and Abort all of the WUs for that particular BOINC. My concern is will the Abort cause any of the WUs for the 64 bit BOINC to get overlayed?

Go ahead and abort them. The client instance will only tell of the results it has knowledge of.

Thanks.

Re: Best BOINC Version for 64-bit Windows

That will not work since I checked and the only version of BOINC on my system is in the Program Files and it is 6.10.18. There are different files for BOINC in Program Files (x86), but not boincmgr. I do not know how I would abort programs for the previous level (6.2.28) of BOINC I had installed.

Seeing any tasks still listed under the v6.2.28-install will time-out in a few days anyway, you don't really need to do anything...

But, one way to do the abortion would be:

1: Stop BOINC v6.10.xx, check in Task Manager boinc.exe is really stopped.
2: Re-name "c:\programdata\boinc" to something else, example "c:\programdata\boinc2". (In case you don't see "c:\programdata", this is a hidden directory, but it will show-up if you manually types-in c:\programdata in 'computer' or wattever it's called now...)
3: Copy the BOINC-directory from "c:\program files (x86)\" to "c:\programdata", so you've got a new directory called "c:\programdata\boinc".
4: Re-start BOINC, and in BOINC Manager select "no new tasks" for WCG, and afterwards abort all the tasks that's show-up. (you can also finish them if you so desires, but if they're not near finish it's normally not worth it.
5: Make sure you hits "update" for WCG, to report all the aborted work.
6: Exit BOINC again, making sure boinc.exe is stopped.
7: Delete the "c:\programdata\boinc"-directory.
8: Re-name the other BOINC-data-directory, example "c:\programdata\boinc2" to be "c:\programdata\boinc" again...
9: and re-start BOINC again... smile

Re: Best BOINC Version for 64-bit Windows

Thanks, I will investigate this as I have time. I would really like to cleanup the device names so that MRDKT-PC no longer exists and one of the David-PC names is deleted (I know which one it is). The problem I have is I can't reliably select the correct device name and I don't think anything is ever being done to eliminate names no longer being used.
