Can't find a proxy that works

I am trying to use a http or socks proxy to get around my works firewall. All the free ones I have found won't connect. Is there one that works?

Getting around the works firewall? How about talking to the works firewall administrator?

Here's all there is in Help on configuring BOINC and the security software to get through a firewall

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=firewall

and a proxy

Re: Can't find a proxy that works

I don't want to contact the admin because I have to put in a help ticket which takes 1 - 3 months to be serviced and I don't want to wait 3 months. I am very well aware of what a proxy is and how to set one up... I just can't find one that works and was wondering if anywhere here uses a proxy or socks they know works?

@zeni7: Maybe you can search your network for proxy related files...

Re: Can't find a proxy that works

i've used CCProxy. It is free for up to 3 users and quite easy to setup

forward all boinc connections to it

Re: Can't find a proxy that works

Utterly uninformed why BOINC never had the "According browser settings"... maybe because of reasons to isolate the process? Used to have a really smart piece of software on the company laptop that would just whir for a while where ever I went, Office, Home, Hotel and was able to tunnel through to the office... through where it even was able to have the UD agent send results on to the grid and that was call back if you wanted, so it would not eat the phonebill, but nowadays on ADSL+ who worries about an unlimited 20MB bandwidth plan for 15 Euro monthly.

Well, I do remember F@H had this option, but it was removed again, and if don't mis-remembers anything the reason for removing it was that Microsoft had intentionally disabled this possibility for other programs to use the IE-settings, atleast in Vista, and if not mistaken even in XP as part of a security-update or something...

So, while it was planned for BOINC to also use IE-settings, it wasn't implemented before it was made obsolete.

I don't know about your company but at our company if we find software installed that has not been approved by our department (IT) they get talked to by the manager. The next time they get caught, they get fired. You may want to reconsider the 3 month wait.

I get so angry with our end users when they do this. They install something, it breaks some other software and then they blame IT for their computer not working. angry

I don't know who does the hiring for our IT department, but most of the time I have to walk them through software installs... and I'm allowed to install whatever program I want (just for some reason they dont give me admin rights). Sometime sI think they could hire a 7th grader to the job of our IT people... I know that I knew more in 7th grade then the IT people here know now.
