Not exactly. I was still willing to accept any Beta testing work on that system and BOINC's backoff means it is only issuing an average of 2 requests per day. One of rules of WCG is that in order to be a member, you must be connected to at least one project. Beta does NOT qualify as one of the projects. There have been months of warnings that NRW was coming to an end and you missed all of the warnings and the system had to attach you to at least one project. What happened to your account was completely predictable. |

A profile without a selected active/intermittent science cannot be saved!
----------------------------------------The Beta program is a separate enrollment with a conditions sheet so members are aware what they're getting into and what is at times expected... not just running it for the hours tally, but to report issues and do some digging and monitoring. Whilst not exactly the elegant way [WCG is somewhat recidivist with that]... there were apologies after the fact and looking forward to that mail, it was not the first time an all projects script was ran after a week/weeks of No work available for your selection, change your options messaging in the client and WCG seeing it still asking [set work to none and it won't]. A coming upgrade of the BOINC server software will allow to set WCG and any overall DC resource share/project weight to zero [no, not per WCG science]. This way it will truly act as a back-up project... only fetch work from WCG when all others are out and the client idling... but then Beta participation is out too... an incentive to keep at least one active/intermittent science selected.

One of rules of WCG is that in order to be a member, you must be connected to at least one project. Which is the case. The profile still has CEP selected. OK, it's marked as an intermittent project and I haven't been sent a CEP task for over 6 months, but it's still a current project. There have been months of warnings that NRW was coming to an end and you missed all of the warnings and the system had to attach you to at least one project. Thanks for leaping to that conclusion, I was perfectly aware that NRW was in its final stages. What happened to your account was completely predictable. I beg to differ for the reasons I've given above. But it's all academic now because I've set WCG to request no new work and it'll stay that way until CEP2 (or anther project which interests me) starts up. If the project selection restrictions mean I can't participate in Beta testing of CEP2 then so be it.

At the very least an email should have gone out to the accounts that would be changed with a notice that WCG was going to change their project selection and then another email stating that the change did happen. WCG communicates so well in so many aspects yet it appears there was bit of a lapse this time around. Please consider notifying people in the future when you are going to forcibly change their project selections.

Personally I did not get the mail, but there was a copy posted on my teams forum dated the 13th, the last paragraph indicating that a change would be applied for the exclusive NRW crunchers:
----------------------------------------We still need your help with six (6) other ongoing projects! World Community Grid continues to run the following projects: FightAIDS@Home, Help Conquer Cancer, Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2, Help Fight Childhood Cancer, Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2, and Discovering Dengue Drugs – Together, Phase 2. All of these important projects need your computer time. If you only had Nutritious Rice for the World selected for active projects, then you will start receiving work from the other active projects. To modify your project selection criteria, please go to the My Projects Page. edit: ..., thus I do not understand Uplinger's comment of the mail being on hold at [Apr 16, 2010 8:29:53 PM], nor why I and others did not get it.
