My device profile was set to only run NRW, CEP and Beta. Send work from another project and automatic opt in to new projects were deliberately not selected.
----------------------------------------All 3 of my selected projects had no work when I completed my last NRW task on 29th March and (as was my intention) I wasn't being sent any work on scheduler requests. That all changed with my last request, when I was sent an HFCC task. Sure enough, the send work from another project option had become selected in my device profile (now deselected). The only (semi) reasonable explanation I can come up with is that NRW has now been totally removed from the project list and its selection was somehow shifted into the send work from another project option. 15/04/2010 21:15:39 World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 15/04/2010 21:15:39 World Community Grid Requesting new tasks 15/04/2010 21:15:44 World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 15/04/2010 21:15:44 World Community Grid Message from server: No work sent 15/04/2010 21:15:44 World Community Grid Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. Quite puzzling.
----------------------------------------At times I've wished for a profile change message to appear in the client same as were the client operations affecting options changed. The example line is this: 16/04/2010 11:18:48 World Community Grid General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 12-Apr-2010 16:28:59) Now, if the science selections are changed, they are saved, but no confirmation appears in the client log, so it's hard to tell what the origins were. It would be all the nicer that a client side message were generated so for instance someone would see that a new project option was populated when there is a launch. Optimally, it would be the selected science list that gets communicated rather than having to dig into the website device profiles, which together with the My Projects is 5 in total.

Thyme Lawn,
The changes made to your Project selections was done by us via a script. We are going to send out an end of project email about the RICE project. In this email we explain that if you don't have an active project selected (only if rice was the only active project) then you will be opted in to receive new work from other projects. The active projects are DDDT2, HCMD2 (which has similar requirements as RICE), FAAH, HFCC, HPF2, HCC. DDDT2 shows up as intermittent but is still an active research project. If none of these projects were selected but RICE was, then we opted members in to receive work from other projects. The end of project email is on hold at the moment but will go out as soon as possible. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Thanks for confirming that Uplinger, but running the script without giving prior notification is unacceptable in my view.
----------------------------------------I had made a conscious decision to only run other BOINC projects until CEP2 finally sees the light of day. By running the script you have overridden my choice of what my computers are allowed to run. I was perfectly aware of the implications of the settings in my device profile and have reversed the effect of your script.

One of the implications of your settings is that your device is constantly connecting to WCG, wasting a little bit of resources, for nothing. Just a thought.

I saw this myself today.
----------------------------------------I had set the machine to just run HCC and while walking thru a new teammember I was looking at my setup and now had HFCC and FAAH checked. Now it's not a big issue with me as I do run these other programs but just wanted to let you know something happened to make those changes and it wasn't at my end.. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks, -Uplinger Movieman, By the above described there should nothing have been changed since you had an active/intermittent project selected. I monitored my own and since I take 2x a day snapshots of My Grid, I derived it was after noon stats when the move/change was made for DDDT2/RICE and nothing happened on either 2 profiles I actively used, not even the if was populated, where I have the new project box ticked down below. Only the "if there is no work..." would have been ticked by the script for those that had none ticked but RICE, so by what you write something went just plain wrong. C'est la vie, C'est la guerre

I had set the machine to just run HCC and while walking thru a new teammember I was looking at my setup and now had HFCC and FAAH checked. If like me you always manage your selected projects directly in the device profiles, after a while your My Projects page will/may be totally inconsistent with what you use to crunch.Since I never use it I just had a quick look at it and, indeed, it has all projects and boxes ticked although I usually crunch one single project (or two sometimes) in each device, with both boxes unchecked. And as long as you don't save it again this general My Projects page will have no effect on the work you are actually receiving. |

One of the implications of your settings is that your device is constantly connecting to WCG, wasting a little bit of resources, for nothing. Just a thought. Not exactly. I was still willing to accept any Beta testing work on that system and BOINC's backoff means it is only issuing an average of 2 requests per day. My second system has been set to request no new work for WCG since it finished its last RICE task. The project forces it to send a scheduler request every other day; that causes a set of database queries on the server so it can return the project preferences and credits.
