Hi,
I'm German so please try to understand my rubish english. I bought a new PC with Nehalem CPU and wanted to crunch some new WU. I have Windows 7 x64. I startet BOINC and 8 FAAH Workunits were crunched until 80%. But then my BOINC crashed. I waited for 20 minutes but nothing happened so i closed BOINC. After i restartet it BOINC could'nt conntect to World COmmunity Grid Client. Nothing happaned. I googled and tried to fix the problem. I installed a newer version of BOINC but all my old WU have gone. So what can I do now? - I want to end all 8 WU which all had roundabout 80% - I want to crunch more but without Errors on W7 Help me please. Thanks a lot and sorry for my English. |

Do not worry about the 8 units which you could not finish. They will be re-issued to someone else. They are gone. The most important thing is to figure out why you stopped at 80% and why you could not connect. Please post your messages when you restart BOINC. This may give us a clue.
----------------------------------------I presume you have some form of I7 hyperthreaded. It is possible you overheated and caused a shutdown. Perhaps limit the number of workunits to 4 and see if they complete. BTW- your English is pretty gut. Cheers

Thanks for your answer.
The problem is that I can't post any Messages my BOINC made, because after I installed a newer version of BOINC everything has gone. Workunits, old Options made, old Messages. I can only say, that my BOINC crashed while Crunching a lot of Workunits. And yes I thought my CPU overheated. So I made another run with only 5. I put all other Workunits on "Canceled from User" and wait while those 5 were chruned. But they are also gone at roundabout 70 to 80%. So I think they are not overheated. I asked in another German Forum but all they say is to deinstall BOINC complete and install the original newset version. Is there anything else I can do without having all these Error Messages? Thanks a lot for your help. |

Find the file "stdoutdae.txt" in your machine. If possible, show us the lines since the las WU started and then crashed. Something like this:

Hi,
I found two stdoutdae.txt. The earlier one is: http://yuzuke.lima-city.de/stdoutdae2.txt The older one is: http://yuzuke.lima-city.de/stdoutdae.txt I think that the earlier one is the one we are searching for, because please remember that I installed BOINC once again after my complete Workunits crashed. The first BOINC i had installed was the one which you can download from worldcommunitygrid.org when clicking "Download this software again for another computer" the second BOINC I installed later is wcg_boinc_6.2.28_windows_intelx86. What do I have to do now? |

Hello Yuzuke,
Please start by posting the beginning of your Messages section (for about a page). This will tell us what is happening on your machine. Just what problems are you having now? Lawrence |

Hi Lawrence, it looks as though the complete messages log from Yuzuke is included in the first link (and this includes the beginning messages).
----------------------------------------Unfortunately though, I don't know as to why it's crashing like this... ![]() |

I'm sorry but this is impossible because after I completely reinstalled BOINC as told abough all Messages, Workunits, everything has gone. The old wu's is still there, but your problem is you switched from 32-bit to 64-bit BOINC-client. Your previous client was v6.2.28, this only comes as a 32-bit version, and is as default installed to "c:\program files (x86)\boinc". Atleast if you've upgraded from v5.x.xx-client to v6.2.28, when v6.2.28 is uninstalled, it will move all BOINC data-files to the program-directory, "c:\program files (x86)\boinc". I'm not sure if this is also the case if you've only installed v6.2.28 and never any older version... Your v6.10.45 on the other hand is a 64-bit version. This in itself isn't a problem, except, this as default gets installed to "c:\program files\boinc". Since all the data-files is residing in "c:\program files (x86)\boinc", the 64-bit installer doesn't see these files, and therefore can't move the data-files to the data-directory. If you really wants to restore the old files it's possible, but if so you'll need to finish all current work (or abort it) 1st., since if not you'll lose this... To more safely switch from 32-bit to 64-bit client, the method would be: 1: After uninstalling v6.2.28, install the 32-bit version of v6.10.xx. (uninstalling v6.2.28 isn't really neccessary). 2: Uninstall the 32-bit v6.10.xx-version. 3: Install the 64-bit v6.10.xx-version. To "fix" your current setup... 1: Uninstall 64-bit v6.10.45. 2: Rename BOINC's data-directory to something else, so you have a backup-copy of this in case the 32-bit-part just errors-out... 3: Install 32-bit v6.10.xx-client. 4: Uninstall 32-bit v6.10.xx-client. 5: Re-install 64-bit v6.10.45. Note, even if you do go through this, chances are all the work will just error-out, so it's a waste of time... Or, if it's not erroring-out on client-startup, if the "new" installation re-used the same device, chances are you've already done this work with the new installation, and you'll get server-abortion when connects to WCG... Also, atleast for some BOINC-projects, a switch from 64-bit to 32-bit and back to 64-bit trashes all the work, but I don't remember if WCG is affected by this problem, since my recollection is too fussy at this particular point, but atleast with a 64-bit application this was the result... Also, I don't remember if the switch from 32-bit to 64-bit also gives problems (haven't really used 32-bit since v5.10.xx introduced 64-bit-client). Atleast my recommendation would be, if your current installation works, and you don't have any long-running CPDN-models on client, it's a waste of time to try recovering the old installation. Any lost work will anyway be re-issued by WCG in a short time anyway. edit - taking a closer look on the logs, something is screwed-up... If you haven't already fixed the problem, probably the easiest would be to uninstall current BOINC-client, delete all BOINC-directories, the c:\programdata\boinc, the "c:\program files\boinc", and the "c:\program files (x86)\boinc". Afterwards, install a new client, since you've got a 64-bit OS I would choose the 64-bit one, but the old v6.2.28 32-bit should also work... Switching between them on the other hand can lead to problems... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might."
