I keep getting this message. i searched the web foun a couple previous posts that are for earlier versions of Microsoft windows but have XP home version and the set up is differrent so I can not fix. In past fixed itself but have waited several days with restarting computer , repaing BOINC all to no avail. The web solutions talk about DROM, I believe and that with large volumes of information it will exceed 1 second and time out. Is that correct and how do I fix on my version of MS if that is the case? If not what do I need to do? I have checked task manager and it os running my world community grid projects (HCMD II) in the back ground. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try to restart the computer (or kill all boinc* AND wcg* processes ) and then run Boinc Manager ?
----------------------------------------also this issue can be if there are very many Wus in cache and boinc manager needs to update UI. Or if boinc tries to connect to some project and there are internet connection issues... |

Hello judson Somerville MD,
Usually on-computer commo problems are caused by security programs interfering with the internet-style messages passing between BOINC Manager, BOINC.exe and the application. Better give us the details of your system, starting with posting the Messages tab from BOINC Manager after a reboot. Lawrence |

rilian and Lawrencehardin,
----------------------------------------Thank you for your help. I did try shutting down all the BOINC WU processes and restarting computer but no help. I had recently run into this problem about a month ago and finally delete all of BOINC and WCG programs etc and that worked but lost all the WU's that I had in the cache (about 8.5 days worth) but did not want to do that again as that ruined for at least a day the "trustfulness" of my machine and probably some completed but not acknowledge WU's(not sure as with out the BOINC manager connect could not see my results. Having spent many hours trying by all angles I could think of and getting the sense it was an internet connection problem (I had the cable company check the line but with no help) I went and examined the cable connection. I found about 20 different connections to 5 lines leading into the house and considered tring to reconnect in a different pattern but in the end realized doing that would probly result in more of mess. Finally I decided to try something simple and just check to make sure all the connections were tight and viola it fixed my problem. Well at least so far!. Some how a slightly loose connection must have been still letting some data through as my internet worked but not BOINC manager connecting to the BOINC proccessors. Go figure. At any rate thanks a million for your prompt help. [Edit 2 times, last edit by judson Somerville MD at Apr 2, 2010 3:44:37 AM] |

Do you really need 8 days of cache? That's tons of WUs, and may cause some slowness (showing "Communicating with BOINC client" msg) communicating Boinc Manager and Boinc.exe ..

Plz go to the BOINC Manager, open the messages and from top where it says starting BOINC, copy some 40 lines here until where it starts failing communication. ttyl.

rilian,
Probably do not need that much cache and will reduce to see if it prevents the problem from returning. Thanks. Serkerob, Thats the problem, the BOINC manager will not open so I can not copy/see anything but the "outline" for BOINC manager but no projects, tasks or messages. Like I wrote before an earlier post but for earlier Microsoft version discussed an issue with DROM it was I believe. When it stops connecting between background programs and BOINC manager it just gives me that message, trying to connect with project. Thank you for you help as really would like to understand why only this computer out of 9 I have running is only one with this issue. I have others on same internet connection running either earlier or later versions of Microsoft which have never had this problem. |

Judson, a copy of the log is printed to the stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC data dir. Have a look there.

The log only goes back about 5 days and starts after I was having these issues. Did I look in the right place? Is there another file that contains earlier dates? I could not with my limited computer skills find it. I appreciaye the help and do want to understand what is causing this problem. Of note did have them look at my high speed internet connection and there were about a half dozen They fixed them where it branches to my house and have not rencounter these problems and my internet runs many times faster. Could a bad connection cause this? |
