New Hacking Tools Pose Bigger Threats to Wi-Fi Users
You may think the only people capable of snooping on your Internet activity are government intelligence agents or possibly a talented teenage hacker holed up in his parents’ basement. But some simple software lets just about anyone sitting next to you at your local coffee shop watch you browse the Web and even assume your identity online. “Like it or not, we are now living in a cyberpunk novel,” said Darren Kitchen, a systems administrator for an aerospace company in Richmond, Calif., and the host of hack 5 a video podcast about computer hacjking and security . “ When people find out trivial and easy it is to see and modify what you do online , they are shocked " |

In)security parade: Sony update, plus LastPass issue: As Sony CEO Howard Stringer was apologizing and promising to “reward” customers for their patience..
Thursday afternoon cnet reported that a group of hackers is planning a third attack on Sony this weekend. Stringer, of course, was referring to the data breach that has exposed the credit-card numbers and other personal information of more than 100 million customers of the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment after both networks were hacked. The Mercury News’ Troy Wolverton writes that the breach “should be a wake-up call for consumers, regulators and other online companies,” with security experts saying consumers should be careful when providing personal data online. “Hang on to your hats,” Phil Blank, security analyst for Javelin Strategy & Research, told GMSV in a phone interview yesterday. Blank said he expected phishing attacks to pick up “come Christmas” as a result of the Sony breach. Stringer did not give an exact date for restoration of the networks, saying only that “in the coming days, we will restore service to the networks and welcome you back to the fun.” |
