It for sure is a good thing to have projects like this going on. There is just one question I didn't find an answer to yet. Is there any way of securing that the results obtained by donated computerpower are made public to the world to aid the world, or will there be a company that will gain profit from the research being done. If there are drugs being found, will these drugs be made available to the people that need them, or will there be millions of poor people, that can not afford to buy these drugs and the company that produces them is making millions of profit. Is there any security that what is gained here will be used in a non-profit manner?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewAboutUs.do
----------------------------------------World Community Grid is making technology available only to public and not-for-profit organizations to use in humanitarian research that might otherwise not be completed due to the high cost of the computer infrastructure required in the absence of a public grid. As part of our commitment to advancing human welfare, all results will be in the public domain and made public to the global research community. And here's a much longer post by Dr. Alex Perryman of FightAIDS@Home who describes the drug discovery process. While he may only be a FAAH scientist, the general principles can be applied elsewhere. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost_post,255365 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 30, 2010 1:07:04 AM] |
