Re: BOINC 6.10.36 on Mac OS X 10.6.1 - No tasks are executing (exit with zero status but no "finished" file)

For those having pulled so much hair, they've now got signs of a bald spot, just added an FAQ to the Start Here index for the MACcers... Tools for MAC OS X. No sinecure to get this baby running on the Apple loveboat.

I have tried 6.10.21 and it fails to communicate with the client.

The BOINC Manager (boincmgr.exe) not able to connect to the core client (boinc.exe) is a permissions issue, that is if boinc.exe is actually running!!!! Can't help you there... port 31316 and localhost IP 127.0.0.1 must be open for these to be able to talk to each other. If you post the actual error messages we might be to get you forward.

Mac users, if you upgrade to OS 10.6.3, 2 issues may arise:

* The upgrade may delete your login item for BOINC Manager. If this happens, BOINC will not launch automatically when you log in or restart your Mac. Just run the BOINC installer again to fix this.
* If you are running CUDA tasks, you must upgrade to version 3.0 of the CUDA drivers, which you can download here.

I did upgrade to 10.6.3. No issues. I did repair permission before I started boinc. Also, I waited until my wu's were all processed before doing this. Running 10.6.21 with no problems.

Upgrading OS, particular with Mac has been a challenge on the BOINC front off late, so do visit the Berkeley BOINC forums before hand should you plan to do this again.

Running cache dry is not really necessary. Make a backup of the data dir after stopping BOINC, and once running the BOINC re-install/repair, whilst disconnected from the internet, a quick check the data is still in place. If note do a data_dir restore and when happy, connect back to the internet.

Off-line, because the server and client maintain contact counters. If they go whoopy, the work is likely invalidated... except for the geeky-experts.
