My team at work recently got an iMac and I installed BOINC on it to run WCG.
The OS version is X 10.6.1 The BOINC version is 6.10.36 (latest version couldn't connect to localhost) All the tasks fail to execute with Computation Error and the following messages: Thu Mar 18 08:35:04 2010 World Community Grid Task R00612_d17e95ba33a33adc492125c489d72a41_03_001_17 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file Thu Mar 18 08:35:04 2010 World Community Grid If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. Thu Mar 18 08:35:04 2010 World Community Grid Restarting task R00612_d17e95ba33a33adc492125c489d72a41_03_001_17 using rice version 617 Thu Mar 18 08:35:05 2010 World Community Grid Task R00612_d17e95ba33a33adc492125c489d72a41_03_001_17 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file Thu Mar 18 08:35:05 2010 World Community Grid If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. Thu Mar 18 08:35:05 2010 World Community Grid Restarting task R00612_d17e95ba33a33adc492125c489d72a41_03_001_17 using rice version 617 I reset the project twice with the same result. |

There's a view issues with 6.10.36 for Mac so you might have to upgrade soon. Usually this error is typical of permissions, but seeing RICE, would you mind to try e.g. Help Conquer Cancer by changing the projects selection and see if it continues to happen.

Try upgrading to 10.6.2. I am getting ready to switch to snow leopard myself. Hoping apple releases 6.3 shortly.

The log in the first post was just an example, this happens with all the projects.
I have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.2 and reinstalled BOINC 6.2.18. The result is less than encouraging, BOINC hangs with the message "Starting client services, please wait", but even after 10-15 minutes nothing happens and I have to force quit it. The older version cannot communicate with the client. |

The result is less than encouraging, BOINC hangs with the message "Starting client services, please wait", but even after 10-15 minutes nothing happens and I have to force quit it. The older version cannot communicate with the client. BOINC v6.2.xx isn't compatible with "Snow Leopard", so you'll need to use a more resent version. You could try v6.10.21, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Or, it's currently listed a v6.10.41 for Mac, downloadable from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ If this latest will work I've no idea, so if you try it do it on your own risk... Wish I new about boinc 6.2 not compatible. Just tried it under SL and would not work. Gave up and went back to leopard to crunch some more. After this batch, will give it another shot. Someone needs to update the FAQ about snow leopard as I just wasted an hour trying to get 6.2 to work.

Give me a link to that FAQ and it will be done, and to enliven the fun, a comment on the Berkeley development forums, noting that 6.10.36 went out just very recently in a red message to the clients that there was a new recommended version:
----------------------------------------6.10.36 and 6.10.37 have been retracted. Do not use them. Do not use 6.10.38 either. My recommendation: Don't go beyond 6.10.21 [for mac] till WCG is ready to tell what's good, next month, maybe.

Actually, the Start Here FAQ I maintain has been saying for a while, since at least revision March 2, 2010:

I tried both 6.10.21 and 6.10.43, it installs but then when the BOINC manager starts up it displays the message "Communicating with BOINC client. Please wait..." but does nothing. The only option is to cancel or quit BOINC.
