Problems with 6.10.36

Since I installed the latest BOINC, 10.6.36, I'm getting lots of error messages "Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high" even though I didn't change any of my preferences. Also, it has started, but not completed, 14 different tasks. Any ideas?

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

Hi,

We knew the issues were coming and the developers not responding. There's a new feature in 6.10.36 which is for most projects still only accessible via the client. Open Advanced view> Advanced Menu > Preferences > Processor Tab. Somewhat 1/3rd down there is a field that gives Whilst... 25%. This is the default. Change that to 0%, not 100%. Zero percent will disable it.

It's not an error btw, it's a feature and problems arrising with it if the client is accessed remotely with a recommended releases lower than 6.10.36... the setting is lost and then defaults back to 25%.

edit: augmented last line.

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

The full line of this new field is:

Whilst processor usage is less than 25 percent (0 means no restriction)

Presently only 1 or 2 projects have it on their website venue preferences.

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

OK thanks. Would that also explain the multiple tasks?

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

Not sure, all 14 of WCG? If for projects outside of WCG I could understand. Also since WCG currently cycles tasks with different deadlines it may be another reason. Plz visit the message log and scan if on computation resume it was starting new tasks. Post a good length of them and we can maybe reconstruct from that.

Personally, I scratched my head again how this release got promoted ad hoc, the day following release without field testing.

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

Any tasks listed with a "waiting for memory" type status in the tasks view?

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

Yes all 14 WCG. Normally it would run 2 with the 2 processors in order of report deadline. Now it's running tasks irrespective of deadline. No tasks are showing "waiting for memory". Extracts below.

Re: Problems with 10.6.36

Is your Leave Application in Memory when pre-empted on? Plz do as it reduces lost time due suspend/resume.

This log block makes no sense at all:

Given I've reported a situation where a client kept fetching work from other projects as it perceived 1 or more cores idle though busy, I'd not have released this version to production., but that's a digression. Suggest to return to your previous version that you were happy with.

No it wasn't, but easily changed. Thanks for your post. I still have the last version.
