confused how do i uninstall it?

i never could get it to work (but was able to get plain ol' Boinc running. go figure). there's no mention of it in the start menu or the control panel yet it's running in the task tray running 4 projects wasting valuable CPU resources.
so what gives?

What is not working?

Your stats show your last result was returned only an hour or two ago.

Those "wasted" CPU resources would have truly been wasted if they had been sitting on your machine (which I'm presuming has a quad core processor in it) idling. Instead, they've been quietly working in the background, contributing (at the latest stats update) 99 days, 12 hrs, 15 mins and 13 seconds, through the completion of 279 WU's. During that time, you've managed to accumulate 3 bronze badges (in HPF2, HCC and HFCC), so I certainly wouldn't say that your CPU has been wasting valuable resources. Just think, one of the WU's your machine has crunched, may result in that breakthrough peice of knowledge allowing the scientists to make major advances in their work.

Anyhow, if you do decide to remove BOINC (and thus, your valuable contributions) from your machine, I for one, am grateful for the contributions you've made applause applause applause applause

Hmm, it doesn't seem you've got any problems running BOINC... confused

But anyway, if you do want to uninstall, it's just like other Windows-programs, you goes to the Control Panel, and navigate to "Uninstall Programs".

BOINC will be listed as "BOINC", except if you're using the customized v6.2.28-WCG-version that I guess will be listed as "World Community Grid" or something...

Since I cannot believe that you consider your real contribution to WCG as wasting valuable CPU resources (see previous posts above) I wonder if it is simply that you would like to see it working?
In that case simply double click on the icon you see in the systray, or right click on it and select "Open BOINC Manager".

I wish you stay with us and in any case thank you for all you have already contributed.

point is, i want it running while the machine is idle, which it won't (see thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28594 ).
even if i get the screensaver working (which is another thing that has me confused. only boinc shows up in the list of screensavers), how can i at least change it so it only runs when the screensaver is activated, not 100% of the time?

Re: how do i uninstall it?

under preferances/processor usage uncheck the box that says "when computer is in use" set the only after the computer has been idle time to screen saver kick in time.

boinic by design only runs when there is nothing else needing the cpu time, I have found it very good about getting out of the way when I want to run something else.

I believe with the version you are running, it displays wall clock time, ie time since started, if you right click and select options, it will show actual time on cpu, the diff is it stopping while you use comp for other tasks.

as far as the screen saver, I don't use it, takes too much time away from boinic. just go to blank screen after x min

Re: how do i uninstall it?

paradive,
The screensaver is only a graphical gadget as fredski said. It does not control BOINC and it is not needed at all.
What makes BOINC work the way you want is those two parameters in your profile that fredski has mentioned:
- "Do work while computer is in use?" = NO
- "Do work only after computer is idle for:" = the delay you want

Since you are using a laptop you might also want to have "Do work while computer is running on batteries?" set to NO to avoid exhausting the battery.

Parameter "Stop work after computer is idle for: xxx minutes" can be used if you want to allow your laptop to completely go to sleep after that time.

If you want to check that your computer is working the way you want you may start BOINC Manager the way I said and leave it on its message list when you stop using your laptop. After the delay you have chosen you will see a message like "Resuming activity", and as soon as you touch the keyboard or the touchpad a message like "Suspending activity" will be displayed.

the problem i had with the screensaver is explained here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28594

i'd prefer to have some eye candy. now it doesn't appear in the list of screensavers. maybe i uninstalled it and it just left the task tray client residing?

and now you say:

please help me understand your problem, is it or is it not listed as an option under screensavers????
