Quick question: Just a little bit ago I noticed that the time portion of the report deadline for my WU's is ahead +1 hour from the time that they were downloaded. Not a big deal, just wondered if this was new or if a time on the server end was off.
----------------------------------------To clarify: Typically if I pick up a WU at 03/05/2010 11:37 my time (local) it will show it as being due 03/15/2010 11:37 (10 day deadline) My WU's are showing a deadline of 03/15/2010 12:37 ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by HutchNYC at Mar 5, 2010 5:40:39 PM] |

The Result Status page strictly reports UTC times. Your client compensates for your local time setting.
----------------------------------------Always been like that.

Prior to about 10:30am (Eastern Time) here, the report deadline time and the download time were always the same. No time change on this end. No adjustment of any settings.
----------------------------------------Not an issue for me, just thought that one of the server clocks may be an hour out of sync with the rest is all. edit clarification WU from last night: Received 03/05/2010 12:39:04 AM Report Deadline 03/13/2010 12:39:06 AM WU from this morning: Received 03/05/2010 11:36:11 AM Report Deadline 03/15/2010 12:36:14 AM Again, it doesn't cause any problems for me. Just wanted to bring it to your attention in case it may cause headaches on the server end. If it's not an issue, then disregard. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by HutchNYC at Mar 5, 2010 5:33:33 PM] |

WU from last night: Since it took me more than two years to realize the reason of this bi-yearly phenomenon I will take a little more time than my colleagues. Received 03/05/2010 12:39:04 AM Report Deadline 03/13/2010 12:39:06 AM WU from this morning: Received 03/05/2010 11:36:11 AM Report Deadline 03/15/2010 12:36:14 AM When it computes the precise deadline date and time BoincMgr already takes the coming DST change into account. In your case, if the computed deadline happens before March 14 the time is the same as the download time, otherwise it applies the DST change to compute the time it will then be when the deadline occurs. As it can be seen in your example where the first one is an 8-day WU (a type A DDDT2 WU?) which will expire before the DST change. For us in Europe the "problem" will start to show around March 18. |

... and sure it did... it's 2 hours difference now for those on CET, which will continue until 10 days before DST ends, for us right on October 31.

... and sure it did... it's 2 hours difference now for those on CET, which will continue until 10 days before DST ends, for us right on October 31. HutchNYC 's initial question was not about the difference between the deadline shown in BOINC and the deadline shown in the Results Status page (2 hours for CET people), it was about the difference inside BOINC Manager between the download time (as can be seen in the message log) and the deadline time as shown in the tasks list. This difference is only one hour, it's the same for any country with a DST whatever the UTC offset, and it is visible only from x days before DST change until the actual DST change takes place, with x varying depending on the project**. WUs downloaded after the actual time change (March 28, 1:00 UTC for CET countries) will no longer show this difference. And that will start again x days before changing from DST to winter time until the actual time change takes place. The deadline time will then be one hour earlier than the download time during this period. Currently, x is normally 10 days for all WUs except for DDDT2 type A (20 days) and DDDT2 type B (7 days). For "repair" jobs it is 4 days for all projects except for DDDT2 type A (8 days) and DDDT2 type B (2.8 days). Note that DDDT2 type A WUs are distributed as repair jobs with an 8-day deadline from the beginning, therefore one should never see one with a 20-day deadline. Edit: PS: For the FAQ I will see that tonight if I don't fall asleep. This afternoon I have some urgent shopping to do. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Mar 22, 2010 1:53:13 PM] |

Thanks for your exposition and clarifying my seemingly misinterpreted understanding... yes, it's 1 hour extra between message log and tasks view (till Mar.28) and 2 hours between Tasks view and Result Status page, latter for those on CET times till Oct.31.
----------------------------------------Looking forward to a new FAQ, not by my hand :D
