There aren't enough computers in the Southern Hemisphere to compete with the Northern... Remember, less land down here, less people, and much less resources.

There aren't enough computers in the Southern Hemisphere to compete with the Northern... Remember, less land down here, less people, and much less resources. True if every single PC in the world was beeing used. There are some 650million PCs in the world. We have just over 125'000 devices defined on this grid (don't know how many PCs)..... so a long way to go. My statememnt on the southern hemisphere related to the fact that Australia and SouthAfrica are pretty inactive on the grid and need to be WOKEN UP! |

A side thought to this topic about the expansion of the grid...
Doubtlessly the project will get a lot of publicity when we've finished and the media get hold of it Should encourage increased growth in single users and networks joining up - hopefully |

My statememnt on the southern hemisphere related to the fact that Australia and SouthAfrica are pretty inactive on the grid and need to be WOKEN UP! I agree with you that both countrys are far away from what they could reach... nethertheless, their potential is limited by the size of their population and the money they can spend: South Africa has about 42.7 million inhabitants and a huge difference in incomes between parts of its population - many live in poor conditions and cannot afford a computer. Australia has about 20 million inhabitants with a bigger income. Nethertheless, both countrys together have less inhabitants than Germany for example (82.5 million) and a much more difficult financial situation. So it is unlikely that these countrys can keep the amount of finished workunits up. ![]() |

Well, basic logic suggests that if everything goes as well as it did within the last 6 months, then it will take about 4 months to process the remaining 40%. However, taking into account the addition of new members, it may take less time than that. Keep in mind that the precise amount of time needed is dependant on the number members available.

I guess we have an answer now:
Robin Willner, director of corporate community relations for IBM, said the first database will be available on the Internet by October. All of the material is expected to be posted by the end of the year. "It's not linear since we pick up new members everyday and finish the work faster," Willner said in an interview Friday. The full story an other articles were posted by David Autumns a couple of minutes ago: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=3642 |

"It's not linear since we pick up new members everyday and finish the work faster," Willner said in an interview Friday. Not exactly. The number hours per and the points generated hasn't changed for a l-o-n-g time. Without the number of points generated going up, nothing is going to finsh faster. |

There is a slight upward trend fj - just compare last weekend with the previous ones - definately going up. Lets see how the week's results compare with the Kentucky 1000 on line - all new crunching machines so a BIG delta increase in devices.....

Lets see how the week's results compare with the Kentucky 1000 on line - all new crunching machines so a BIG delta increase in devices..... I may be wrong, as I donot have access to all the historical data, but yesterday seems to be the BEST MONDAY so far ... and things go up and peak Wednesday/Thuesday and then drop on Friday. I guess some people at work on Mondays and Fridays are switching PCs off at around 17:00 on Friday and on again around 9:00 on Mondays - loose an average og 8 hrs of crunching potential on Fridays and Mondays (and of course 48 hrs over the weekend). So this week is LOOKING GOOD! |
