I would like to see intermediary recognition for each badge - just put a mark at each corner for each quarter of the way towards the next badge. Either that or let people move the mouse over the icon to display the details of that users badge. So if someone who just crunches HCC has done 18years and you move the mouse over the blue HCC badge it will say 18years, and perhaps the points and tasks completed too. These details are available for the users by clicking on My Grid, so all the data is already there, but you cannot see anyone elses. It might ease the pain for those sat on 1year 364days or similar.
It is about time someone spat out the next range of badges. Some people now have tens of years and a few have hundreds on one or more projects. There are lots of crunchers asking for this, but it would appear that no-one is listening. There are no new badges and only one intermittent project to chase after, and that one is a bit too much like trying to get a beta badge. With my interest waning, down from over 100K per day here to under 40K, I once again find myself leaning towards other projects. There are many to choose from. |

since i have my computers setup for DDDT2 with the no work avalible box checked... i am slowly geting DDDT2's but geting alot of other work That is excatly why we need another control option on the My Projects page, that allows us to say no work from a project. This would be useful when we have the "If there is no work available for my computer ..." box checked (e.g. while waiting for DDDT2 WUs). Suitable times for selectively refusing specific projects include: (1) when a computer gives too many errors on a project (e.g., my 64-bit W7 machine can't handle HPF2), and (2) when we have acheived the badge we want for that project and don't want to spend more time on it or take WUs from others. and |

skgiven and Farpung,
----------------------------------------Your posts contain interesting ideas but they would have had better chances to not fall into oblivion if they had been posted in the Suggestion/Feedback forum rather than in this (soon ending) thread. Too bad. Farpung, from what I have read recently your first item has good chances to be handled directly by the servers in their next major upgrade. With the additional benefit that they would issue periodical retries to see if the condition still exists without you having to take care of it. Cheers. Jean. Edit: Farpung, I have just seen that you have already posted again at the right place, so it's fine. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Apr 5, 2010 4:24:07 AM] |

Either that or let people move the mouse over the icon to display the details of that users badge. 14 days. You cant even wait until 14 days of crunching. You need a biscuit for your first WU. No. Make the commitment and crunch 14 days worth of WU. Even on a dual core that does not take too long. Take the time to EARN a badge, unless we are going to give out badges for 2 years, 1 month; 2 years, 2 months; 2 years, 3 months........... 50 years, 1 month........ 100 years 7 months. So if someone who just crunches HCC has done 18years and you move the mouse over the blue HCC badge it will say 18years, and perhaps the points and tasks completed too. |

As a new member to the forum I'd like to know if the NRW project is finished now.
----------------------------------------And if so, will a new phase project arise or is it totally completed ? And, could someone be as kind to explain me the badge system ? Thanks in advance. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 5, 2010 6:45:48 PM] |

And, could someone be as kind to explain me the badge system ? Thanks in advance. NRW is essentially complete; they're just waiting for the last WUs to trickle in so all proteins have the 120,000 folds. There will be no phase 2 for this project. Here's info about the badges: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=badge |

Hello eric and welcome to WCG and forums.
NRW is completed on 99,999%. You can get more info at project site http://protinfo.compbio.washington.edu/rice/status.html And as far as i know they do not plan phase2. They alredy added some proteins (increase from 40k to 65k) And badge system is extremely easy. You get badges for contribution to specific project (for time spent with particular project) reed more at FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,19120_offset,0#157248) |

Thank you Randzo for your reply.
----------------------------------------Well then , I can say I'm glad the project's finished and my cpu power could help. Do we get any feedback on the projects results or do the scientist prevent to disclose their findings ? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 5, 2010 9:46:30 PM] |

Thank you Randzo for your reply. Well then , I can say I'm glad the project's finished and my cpu power could help. Do we get any feedback on the projects results or do the scientist prevent to disclose their findings even to us ? All results produced at WCG are public domain. I'm sure we'll get notified when they publish paper(s), but that takes quite a while. |

The last significant update from a project was the Aids one I think.
It'd be unduly optimistic however to imagine that every project we crunch WU's for will be a major success, major scientific advances just aren't that easy to come by. I'd guess a fair proportion of all research projects here return nothing of great significance to humanity in the end. Edison was famous after all for the number of failed attempts he had at creating the humble lightbulb. Personally, if even one of the projects on WCG comes up with a really significant breakthrough it'll all be worthwhile. |
