XP and Facebook and WCG

a little history, got a box was erroring out on a regular basis (wcg projects) p4 2ghz, 768 mb ram, 100 gb hd, 80 gb free, no real reason, The system cannot find the path specified. (0x3) - exit code 3 (0x3). I set this up approx 6 weeks ago, full format/reload.

I do have an old win98 app (the reason this box lives) that is not XP compatable (by the manf) that I had to club a bit to make it run, blamed it for the errors.

happened to be on site when it errored out tonight, was a vm error (not enough memory), but only when a certian facebook app was run, was told, "oh it always does that when I go there"

This box had come to me with 256MB ram, i set it up, was slow as frozen mud, contacted the owner, recommened memory upgrade, added 512 mb, tested/worked great

I checked vm settings tonight, was set to custom, 192 mb initial, 384 mb max, I had never checked vm settings, thought win xp default was "by system". I can only guess that vm was set during initial setup with 256 mb ram and did not change with added memory, as of course, no one has touched it, which I am 90% sure is true.

moral of this story is, if you have xp, and run facebook apps and have problems with wcg erroring out, check your vm settings

Re: XP and Facebook and WCG

First I heard that XP sets a VM ceiling, even the floor of 192Mb is obscure (75% of original RAM), but will certainly create an FAQ index item x-linking to your post as a heads up, warning to check this in the Systems Control Panel, Performance, Advanced Tab (or wherever it may be under different Windows OSses). XP Instructions to correct in this guide written for gamers: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837869

thanks

PS and OT: Used to use PageDefrag now and then under XP and Vista, but can't get it to run under W7, not 32 nor 64 bit. Speeds up systems quite a bit. For longer had it set to fixed oversized (and some having security concerns with that... stored sensitive information, of any kind).

Re: XP and Facebook and WCG

A little more info to fill in the blanks, when this fb app was run, it gave a "application c:\program......\hpf has attempted to exit in an unusual way" error from windows, with a fb error "insufficant memory" under it, clicking the ok button on either one closed both error windows, and ie. While it was a HPF wu that burned last night (with 14.93 hrs on it) this box has also errored on HFCC, FAAH and I believe all others.

Agent Version: 6.2.28
