Re: Installing in a school

I'm not clonining clients. I had installed each client manually computer by computer. Today I'm going to copy the XML file in every computer individually.

I'm not using re-imaging software. Each student has their own directories and files and never get removed periodically.

I'll tell you all...

Re: Installing in a school

Ok, if you post a message log we can read what's happening. Can you confirm in the BOINC Manager Projects tab that WCG is listed.

thanks

Re: Installing in a school

Hi Ommadawn,

I've sent note to the technician on this. It dawned on me, based on another report of detaching by someone who's trying to run off-line clients, that after all the servers are confusing the different clients. They're possibly too identical... thought they would still have LAN internal unique IP addresses to allow the setup, but you're best placed to tell what pieces on your network makes them some way visible as different computers from the outside.

Re: Installing in a school

Hi Sekerob!

Yesterday I had no time to copy the log, sorry.

I could see in most of the BOINC clients appears the status column of the workunit "Aborted by project"...

Maybe they are too identical, yes. I'll ask the LAN admin about the classroom setup. I think we're using a server as a proxy to connect to Internet (teacher's computer) and the students' computers are connected to teacher's computer by a swicth. Could it be a problem?

Re: Installing in a school

A tech will hook up to this thread and him having the ability too look in the server side information will be able to give further guidance on this.

Probably if you post start up logs of 2 clients we may see more such as the assigned device ID which would be a line like this:

18/02/2010 09:53:52 World Community Grid URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID 1234567; resource share 501

Re: Installing in a school

Ok, I'll see that. Thanks!

Two offtopic-fast-questions:
1 - If I had installed a client in a computer X using my account and I change my account password later... Will be problems with the computer X (trying to log in with the old password)?

2 - How could I uninstall the client on linux clients? Just removing the folder where it is located?

Thanks!

Re: Installing in a school

Passwords once a project is attached to a client are no longer of relevance. There's encrypted code then that identifies each machine connecting to the servers.

Uninstalling... hmmm we expressly forbid that :).

Amazingly, the wiki http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Uninstalling_BOINC makes no mention of Linux. Let me dig.

Re: Installing in a school

Excuse me, I've been out this week and I couldn't reply anything...

Some of my error messages were:

Message from server: No work sent
Message from server: No work is available for Help Fight Childhood Cancer
...
Message from server: (reached daily quota of 4 results)

What doesit mean? What can I do (if possible) ?

Thanks
