Wow.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/01/25/apple.fans/index.html?hpt=T2 No matter what type of new product Apple unveils at its much-anticipated press event later this week, Xavier Yaffar says he will buy it. Whatever the cost. "I don't even have to look at it," the 48-year-old said. |

I have mixed feelings.
----------------------------------------Some negative points I find (strictly personal) for the base version: Too heavy. I read 1.6 pounds. That's 725 grams. I would have expected at least 24 hours battery autonomy whatever you do with it. I find it a little thick (from pictures). No webcam integrated. Memory capacity at 16GB is much to low. I would have expected a higher resolution. On the positive side: The touch screen and the brilliant picture and colors. The size (wide, length) are good. All that for about 500 US$. A beefed up version (more memory, 3G connection etc.) is expected to cost about 700 US$. Now in Europe where I am this means a much higher price which is bad news. It won't be by me before June anyway. So until I can really try it physically in my hand and get the real look and feel, there was no WOW effect. Maybe as I already have an ITouch I am a little spoiled. Wait and see... ![]() |

Whenever Apple presents new products, they sometimes do not only present a new product but a new business model.
Example: When Apple presented the iPod, these gadgets where far away from being rocket science. Thick, not much memory, no color display, not much memory, not much battery time. The real innovation behind the iPod was the business model that made Apple the world's leading music store with iTunes. iTunes was the enabler from moving from the audio CD to MP3 based music business. The iPods became better and better with features like color displays and video capabilty to further boost the revenues made with iTunes. The new iPad is also a product you have to assess from the business model perspective, not solely from the technical perspective. I see the iPad as the enabling platform to bring the book market and the newspaper market from a paper based world to the electronic world - this is comparable with what apple did with the music business. I am sure we will see technical better iPads in the near future: lighter, better battery, more memory, integrated photo and video camera, DVB receiver, integrated dish washer etc.The real innovation is by far not the technical device. Greetings |

There has been a lot of talk about e-books and Kindle etc, but they never arrived to this side of the ocean. If someone is really interested about these tablet pc's, here you go HP Slate and HP Touchsmart
