So you could browse the internet anonymously

My setup, with anonymous proxy, cookie blocking and more tricks was identified 100% correct and unique in fingerprint of the first 17,796 18,224 visitors who tested, then retested. Now they can profile the computer user wherever it goes looking:

Use a very common browser (FireFox not Chrome) and NoScript and your fingerprint will be sized down quite considerably.

And do watch out for Chrome and Google Toolbar... it sends your browsing information even when you've disabled it according to this article.

Re: So you could browse the internet anonymously

Hi Sekerob,
thanks for bringing up this topic.

If you do not like your IP address and other details being logged when using search engines I would recommend the meta crawler on ixquick.com ("the world's most private search engine").
They stopped logging the IP addresses and the site was awarded with the European Privacy Seal.
You can even do you searches via https to avoid searches being tracked by someone.

For Firefox, search engine add-in ixquick:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search?q=i...;pid=5&sort=&lup=

So private it was quick to serve me Italian pages at top and English pages with Italian adds inserted... you can run but you can't hide :(

Firefox users should use BetterPrivacy to delete those nasty LSO flash cookies not normally cleared by clearing cookies.

Googlebar lite is google toolbar without tracking stuff.

I also use AdBlock Plus with Easy Privacy list added.

Finally, Ironkey's modified TOR anonymous browsing is great.

Re: So you could browse the internet anonymously

Think you mentioned that one in the FireFox add-on thread... over-duly added to 3.6... which like 3.5 has a private navigation session mode.

Re: So you could browse the internet anonymously

Don't be sorry, I should be. Just wanted to convey I'm now finally trying it out in this context of safer/more private browsing discussion :D

Re: So you could browse the internet anonymously

eso,

To follow up last night exiting the webbrowser BetterPrivacy indicated the removal of 77 LSO's. A Link to this add-on for convenience: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623

Inserted into the standard lib.

thanks

Re: So you could browse the internet anonymously

I came across a number of articles recently describing digital surveillance and data mining much like Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon...when I realized that EFF's website is a play on words (Panopticlick).

Good article about Google here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/01/opinion/01gibson.html?_r=2

Google is a distributed entity, a two-way membrane, a game-changing tool on the order of the equally handy flint hand ax, with which we chop our way through the very densest thickets of information. Google is all of those things, and a very large and powerful corporation to boot.
