Hi
----------------------------------------I have recently re-installed BOINC Manager (ver. 6.2.28) as WCG advised me that they were not getting updates from me. Now seems to be sorted. However, I am now receiving the following 'message' every second: dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss [network_status_debug] status: don't need connection What causes this? How should I react? How do I turn it off? Thanks Creekfella [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 28, 2010 9:19:25 AM] |

Hi Creekfella, although I haven't seen this message before, what may help establish as to what's happening, is if you could post the top part of your BOINC messages log - as there may just be a clue in there...

Hi Creekfella,
----------------------------------------In your quest to find the problem, you've probably copied or created a cc_config.xml file in which there is this <log_flags> section with <network_status_debug>1</network_status_debug> All you need to do is open the file with an ASCII text editor and change the 1 to 0. On restart of BOINC or reading in the config file again via the advanced menu in BOINC Manager you'll be the message will be disabled. Welcome and thanks for choosing to contribute your CPU cycles to WCG.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure which file you are referring to as the only file that I can find with reference to this message is 'stdoutdae.txt'. This is in the BOINC program data directory.
I have looked at this and its properties but it is just a standard text file as far as I can see. I have also tried the action advised by Sekerob but that has not had the desired effect. Regards Creekfella |

Thanks for the advice
I have edited the file cc_config.xml in the program data directory to read <cc_config> <log_flags> <http_debug>0</http_debug> <http_xfer_debug>0</http_xfer_debug> <network_status_debug>0</network_status_debug> </log_flags> <options> <http_1_0>0</http_1_0> </options> </cc_config> I then reloaded BOINC and ran it but am still getting the message. I did not mention earlier that this only happened after installing Windows 7 perhaps its related? Best wishes Creekfella |

You've edited the cc_config.xml, saved it, made sure the file name has not changed, restarted BOINC or reread the config file via the BOINC Manager menu and it has not resulted in that debug message going away? Maybe there are 2 copies. The one and only that BOINC uses is in the data_dir where the stdoutdae.txt file is also located.

I did all that and the error reports kept coming! It was the only occurence of the file. In the end I deleted the cc_config.xml file and restarted BOINC and the error messages have ceased. There do not seem to be any negative results from deleting the file. Was it needed?
Anyway thanks for the suggestions Creekfella |

Hello Creekfella,
Nope, not needed. If I remember correctly, if you delete it a blank file is created as a spaceholder that you can enter commands into. I may be wrong. Lawrence |

It's a riddle how the edited config file with the flag set to zero did not take effect. Deleting the file is fine as by default it is not created during the BOINC installation, no placeholder. Certain log flag defaults are hard-coded into the client.
----------------------------------------At any rate if Creekfella could edit the opening post title and insert [RESOLVED] in there we can leave this thread for the archives.
