Bionic Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Hi
I downloaded the latest version of the software.
Problem is that the manager will not connect to the local host after Install. If I go to the system settings - screen saver, I see Bionic grayed out. If I click on it the system tells me I cannot use that software on this system. I use 10.6 Snow Leopard and wondering if this is the problem.

greetings

Uwe

Re: BOINC Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

SL has out of the box compatibility problems with the BOINC package [not boinic], that worked fine through 10.5, so I'd advice to go for the latest recommended at Berkeley. Get it here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?all_platforms=1

To add, here's a page link that discusses things such as installing BOINC as daemon/service on OS-X http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X

Re: BOINC Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Any word if boinc plays well using snow leopard? Plan on migrating after the next update (6.3) which should clear allot of bugs. Looked on the boinc board but can't find much.

Re: BOINC Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

BOINC 6.6.36 runs fines under SL, however the screen saver does not work as SL does not support older third party screen savers. This was one of the issues surrounding the SL upgrade that users had difficulties with BOINC.

It has been previously reported the recent 6.10.21 release does support the BOINC screen saver under SL.

Please note that WCG currently does not support either stated above BOINC versions as 6.2.18 is still the recommended and current WCG download option.

I'm running SL on 2 macs with 6.10.21. Works just fine although I don't run the boinc screensaver.

Thanks. Hopefully 6.3 comes out soon with fewer bugs to run full time.

Re: BOINC Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Mac adorants might want to hold off from upgrading to the newly recommended (without running a fair period of beta testing that I know of) BOINC 6.10.36 as there are reports of network failing. A user who had multiple device fails downgraded to 6.10.21 resuming networking as normal.

Re: BOINC Manager and MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I control uploading and downloading of wu's so hope this won't be a problem. When 6.3 comes out, will switch to SL and give it a shot on my mac pro.

The world of Mac is probably as non-consistent as for Windowsees... a test build resolved it, so yes, within a few days 6.10.36 became another prematura. For us Windows PC users alpha 6.10.38 is about to come out... a Mac version will be on it's heals, alpha again.
