A few days ago I decided to get back into crunching, but I'm not so sure I'm doing any good. Any suggestions?

Wild Guess: Linux?
----------------------------------------Tell us bout what Linux/Version and please post copy of the startup client message log. The key error seems this: process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63), seemingly only once before reported for the HFCC project in this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,24794_offset,0#220222 which should give more pointers where to look Let us know and we'll take it further from there/here edit: found another thread with this error in the none-project specific BOINC support forum with Ubuntu as platform, and covering the HFCC science: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,27559_offset,0#252399

Yep Mythbuntu specifically. My best computer spends its days occasionally recording tv shows. Figured I might as well make it do something useful.
Ubuntu with the xfce desktop and mythtv in 1 package. 64-bit. I see I don't have the ia-32 libs installed as the other thread pondered over. Startup log is as follows: (I hope this is the right log) 15-Jan-2010 17:59:59 [---] Starting BOINC client version 6.2.18 for x86_64-pc-li nux-gnu 15-Jan-2010 17:59:59 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 15-Jan-2010 17:59:59 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.18.2 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 libidn/1.10 15-Jan-2010 17:59:59 [---] Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual C ore Processor 6400+ [Family 15 Model 67 Stepping 3] 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx 8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx m mxext fxsr_opt rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow rep_good pni cx16 lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] OS: Linux: 2.6.28-17-generic 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Memory: 1.94 GB physical, 972.64 MB virtual 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Disk: 285.84 GB total, 38.03 GB free 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Local time is UTC -6 hours 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] No coprocessors 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [World Community Grid] URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.o rg/; Computer ID: 1154039; location: (none); project prefs: default 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modifi ed 20-Sep-2008 22:34:44) 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Host location: none 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] General prefs: using your defaults 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Reading preferences override file 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 993.60M B 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1788.48MB 15-Jan-2010 18:00:00 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 15-Jan-2010 18:00:01 [World Community Grid] Restarting task X0000088100245200705 140948_1 using hcc1 version 603 15-Jan-2010 18:00:01 [World Community Grid] Restarting task R00514_56529b8f7cf01 3a287ffd544bcca5bc4_02_003_14 using rice version 617 etc, In looking through the rest of the log I don't see any errors or messages to restart. Yes, the 32 bit libraries are a must for the 64 bit *nux's to get WCG 32 bit compiled science to run successfully. Give that a go and see what happens.

I take that back, they were installed. I reinstalled and rebooted, so I'll see what happens over the next couple days.

So far so good.. mostly. :) It looks like reinstalling the ia32 libs fixed things up.
Here's something interesting tho. The Help Cure Cancer project is showing this in both the inconclusive and valid results. Unrecognized XML in parse_init_data_file: computation_deadline Skipping: 1264628502.000000 Skipping: /computation_deadline The 1264... number changes. I can copy the rest if you want, but the stats are updating. Talk about timing. heh |

Nothing to worry about. It just means that this application has not been programmed to recognize this parameter** and it is simply ignoring it.
----------------------------------------Since the number is the WU's deadline in BOINC notation it is normal that this number changes. And logically you should find these three lines in all HCC result logs (I have not run HCC for a while so I cannot check it myself). Cheers. Jean. ** It was probably introduced after the current level of the HCC application which is very stable and has not changed for long. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Jan 20, 2010 8:29:36 AM] |
