Hi all,
Just a bit confused as to how to setup processors used. I have a dual core machine, which also has NVidia GPU, so 3 processors yes? I want to limit usage to 1 core, and the GPU, leaving 1 core free for OS. Do I need to set 2 processors on multi-processor machines in the web preferences (but then how do you know it will not use both cores and leave the GPU idle)... Or 1 processor, and the GPU is automatically used and not counted as a processor? |

Hello Alt3rn1tv
If you only want to use 1 processor then I would set preferences to use 1 processor. Then it should only use 1 core. As for the GPU, at this time I do not believe WCG has any projects running that utilize the computers GPU processor so it should not be use. |

Ah I see, you distinguish use of cores and GPU seperately, so the number of cores is the only thing affected by the multi-processor option. The GPU will be used if not in use automatically, but only if a project supports its use.

And regards projects yes I think you are right, I have been searching why BOINC has an ability to use GPU in the advanced preferences locally, the only ones I can find out are listed in the Attach to projects section on the boinc wiki... http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing Projects with NVIDIA applications: GPUgrid.net SETI@home Milkyway@home (Double precision GPU required) AQUA@home Lattice Collatz Conjecture Projects with ATI applications: Collatz Conjecture Milkyway@home (Double precision GPU required) [Edit 1 times, last edit by alt3rn1ty at Jan 16, 2010 3:06:06 PM] |
