Hi there,
I have just upgraded my Ubuntu Linux box from 32 bit to 64 bit, both with AMD processors. This includes a new motherboard, processor and memory, so the specifications have changed markedly. It's virtually a new machine, with a new identity. I've installed the Boinc client OK (I think) and connected to the project, although there is currently nothing processing and the messages say: "Peer certificates cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates" I've looked through the FAQs, but can't find anything specific about registering a new device to replace an old one, which is what I would like to do. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Ian |

Good luck, I had this same problem as well. It took me a while to figure out, but I'm pretty sure I followed these instructions:
----------------------------------------2. or install the upstream ca-bundle.crt file for BOINC: 1. cd /var/lib/boinc-client 2. sudo mv ca-bundle.crt{,.bak} 3. sudo wget http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/export/16195/trunk/boinc/curl/ca-bundle.crt -O ca-bundle.crt.upstream 4. sudo cp -a ca-bundle.crt{.upstream,} https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/246205 ![]() |

The very discussion at launchpad is referenced in our FAQ, and now seeing it remains an issue for some on Karmic.

Good luck, I had this same problem as well. It took me a while to figure out, but I'm pretty sure I followed these instructions: Thanks for that Nicoli - it worked a treat to get the thing going. I still only have the one device installation though, under the name of the old machine. Perhaps it will update when results get returned? I expected to have to give the new name for the new device? Anyway, I'm crunching again which is the main thing! Cheers! ![]() |

Wish there was an FAQ how to register a new device to replace an old one, for it is a function long on the wish list. There is an FAQ how to avoid creating a new device, item 1N on the FAQ index http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21501 ... mostly, using same IP, same device name and a few other factors which allows the automated system to see if it matches a pre-existing device. Having the data directory from the old install restored helps the recognition on first contact, but after that, think there's no going back and the new registration is permanent.

Thanks Sekerob,
I'll live with it as it is then - no big deal. |
