Can someone please explain how a faster machine than my own claiming credits after me, claiming less credits than me and it gets the same credit as I got. I was under the impression that faster machines got less credit than slow ones.... Might as well let slower machines ask for credit first.
I know I may not be explaining myself properly and I don't know how to add a print screen to this forum. So please ask questions. Thank you. |

I have a even better result for a WU. Another computer finished the same WU and took the exact same amount of time to complete the WU and he got more credit than I did.
Now why is that?????????????????????? |

As with RICE's seeds, one part of the calculation of credit is how many positions were computed by each client in a quorum, something one cannot derive from the result log. Mostly, only when the result [grand]child name indicates the included positions and both are able to compute all in the permitted time does the averaging/outlier rules become more apparent.

Well I am very frustrated with this situation, I believe everybody should be treated the same and until that happens I am shutting down my crunching machines. NO MORE CRUNCHING. Arividerchi................................

Well, getting credit proportional to the computing effort and power contributed is part of measuring one's share in the volunteering. On Average everyone is getting their credits/points, there always being the oddball head-scratchers. Since most are contributing to fast forward science, the points a non-monetary fun-valuation, it will be the last reason for me at least to seq stop contributing to distributed computing for cures and finding ways to ameliorate hunger such as through Nutritious Rice for the World.
----------------------------------------Aside, if credits are so important to you, a new scheme is under development that hopefully will get it's implementation in 2010, so what we do is ... crunching on and hoping you'll return to contribute when the frustration has worn off. Let us know... your words are being read. edit: one's not once

I am absolutely ASTONISHED at your reaction s_grandbois@hotmail.com.
---------------------------------------- I cannot imagine you are serious. Let's put things in the right perspective: You are not crunching for points but for helping science advance for the sake of humanity and that is also yourself by the way. I hope not for you, but you never know if in the future you may need some of the remedies that may come out of this CPU power donation that we all make here. If you were crunching for points only sorry but it is really better for you to set up a business, (data center, server farms you name it) and sell computing power for real money to whoever is willing to pay. I do not want to be hard or rude in any way, you are completely free to do whatever you want with your CPU time and fight for causes you believe in and in your way, but frankly I am wondering if you are an adult or a kid. There is no absolute perfect way of counting points. Sometimes it can be at your disadvantage and some time at your advantage. I did also some analysis on WU's how they were rated, depending on the machine type and on the project etc. etc. I simply gave up because there is no use at it. It is good enough and equilibrated enough even if very often I get less credit that what I claim about 15% for HCMDP2. With NRW it was the other way. So what? What counts is that the work is done and WU's are retruned to the scientists. Points may not be perfect but the bookkeeping that WCG does of our points over time (years) is really perfect. So up to you to leave but give it a thought at least once more and you will be welcome back to our little family trying to make a world of difference. Every single WU returned counts. You will see, it is a lot of fun to donate. ![]() ![]() |

Sad, but your decision to make.
Governments make laws to protect the weak from the strong in many areas. Statistics are established to measure the effectiveness of the laws - and manipulated according to political bias. Sportscasters perpetually seek ever-more-obscure "records" to achieve, in the absence of anything worthwhile to say. No statistical measure can ever suit everyone's interpretation and entire industries can be established to state and restate the data according to political ambitions. People even make such manipulation the entire focus of their lives. What all these people miss is the fundamentals - to redress imbalances, not to comply with quotas (legislated or implicit.) To have fun and interact with others, not be the first person over six feet tall born in August to have scored more than 100 points in a financial year, or whatever. It simply doesn't matter whether you're first or sixth or one-hundred-and-sixth to achieve that medal. What does matter is that you're still on the sidelines to cheer the last runner home. |

Maybe this cruncher was needing to trade in the points for Air Miles.

Perhaps for a trip in the wild blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue yonder? :D
Or maybe an anomaly as Kremmen has observed? |
