Or maybe an anomaly as Kremmen has observed? We'll never know with so little information from the original poster. For the time being I assume that he was mainly wanting to express his frustration. One doesn't need to go through the burden of posting a screenshot when it is so easy and quick to cut/paste the details of a "strange" quorum. My guess would be for two very different machines reaching the 6-hour limit but we have not been given a real chance to investigate this case seriously. Never mind. Jean. |

What is strange is the fact of having been a cruncher since one year, participate to the various projects and then quit so abruptly.

Still amazed that some people are more concerned about points than the research.

I am amazed from many things here, the members who post in that thread believe me, they are very much interested in research and they crunch and crunch and crunch

I think the guy deservers a bit of credit and respect for his efforts, if not his opinion or action. He contributed over 3M points.
Although Sek offered some explanation and guidance others preferred to stick the boot into someone that was here less than a year, has 6 posts, and probably did not appreciate the situation fully. He is obviously interested in crunching as he is now crunching Seti and Rosetta. His opinion differs from mine, but I share his concerns. Unless I expressed these I would not have learnt that the existing points system is being altered, for the better. It took plenty of guided reading to understand the existing system let alone the modifications being introduced and planned. This is the purpose of the forums. I am not going to quit crunching because my overclocked i7 gets 25% less credit than claimed; I understand that the system is doing plenty of good work, if not getting appropriate points recognition. I am not actually concerned that I am getting less points that I should be (if indeed I should be getting more), and not because others have overclocked i7s and are not getting the points either. However, if you are going to have a points system, then it is important that it is fair and seen to be a fair by everyone. If not then some people will not like it. Not many will have the courage to crunch elsewhere just to make a point. My concern is that if members are not allowed to present arguments or ask questions without being heckled they will leave; not just because of their original concern but because of the heckling. PS. Not everybody understands the research enough to discuss it. That just leaves badges, points and non WCG topics! |

skgiven,
----------------------------------------Your comments are right from a general point of view. However in this particular case the lack of respect comes first from a member who asks for explanations without providing any single number to illustrate his particular situation and then smashes the door on Sekerob's nose before we have any chance to really help him. Comments from other members have come after that. Again, from his second post I suspect that he has faced a case where two devices have hit the 6-hour limit and have got credits proportionally to their respective power. If so, nothing strange, nothing unfair and he would have probably understood it if he had been really willing to be explained it. |

The points system does have numerous quirks, although i'm surprised it took him so long to realise (given he seemed to care alot about it). My HCMD2 has 60k more points than Rice even though it has 12 days less runtime, as an example quirk. I can guess reasons, but I'm not fussed.
Making a "fair" points system is hard. Firstly you've got to decide on what fair is... And I'm glad its not me who has to work that out. |
