I am working on a new Dotsch/UX 1.2 release in the moment in the alpha test.
Mayor changes are CUDA implementaion and CUDA tools, Live CD persistent home directory mode, a Grid Perfomance mointoring tool, integrated backup over network and to local devices, and a lot of enhancements and fixes. I would very happy, if anybody would been interested to help beta test the new release. The beta test would start at the mid/end of the comming week. Please contact me via PM, if you are interested in Beta test the new release. |

Dotsch,
Is this your personal version of Ubuntu running on USB drive? I did a google search for the OS...and found http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/Dotsch_UX.html Is this the proper website for this? Also, what version of Ubuntu is the 1.2 system based on? Could you please verify the link i have shown and maybe fill in more of the details? -Uplinger |

Yes, Uplinger, it's my Ubuntu based Linux distribution for BOINC. The link is the right one. Dotsch/UX 1.2 is based on Ubuntu 8.10, Dotsch/UX 2.0 would been Ubuntu 9. - I will wait some time, till Ubuntu 9 got very stable and then do the migration to 9. - The migration is also a lot of work, and I hope that with some more help the development process can speed up and everything is better tested... Btw. It's a lot of more as USB booting... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dotsch at Jan 4, 2010 7:08:37 PM] |

Could you tell me a little more about the difference between your agent and the standard agent? Is it windows only, or linux too? It's not the BOINC Client (Agent), it's a complete Linux Distribution for BOINC. Main goals are easy to setup and use, boot from a Live CD (and save the data to a USB stick), boot from the USB stick directly (without a CD), install and boot from a hard disk and also setup quick and easy (with a very few steps and configurations) a server and client for diskless clients which boot over network and stores the data on the diskless server. And also now performance monitoring, backup, and some other helpful tools. The configurations for this functions are automated and reduced for only a few setup steps, so that a normal user can setup everything. Also the Ubuntu distribution was stripped down to reduce HDD space, and several uneeded services and daemons are deactivated by default, to reduce the required memory and get as much as possible (without loosing comfort) for BOINC. Dotsch,
Quick recommendation if you are going to be doing a build for your OS to be version 2.0, wait for the LTS version of BOINC to do that. I believe that'll be version 10.04 if I'm not mistaken 18 months since the last LTS version. Let us know when you're beta is ready and I would also recommend posting a link about it on the website you have created. On your website to get people to work on the beta, post a link to the forum you have with beta announcements. -Uplinger |
