Ha, I was just testing to see who was eating the bandwidth... seems it's you, and really, yesterdays version is just showing fractionally more project progress than todays. ;>)

As a forum moderator, I am trying to persuade my fellow team members to help WCG as much as possible, not a particularly easy thing to do, due to the relatively poor level of credits compared to most BOINC projects. One of the good points about WCG is that there are many charts and stats available, and I try to point out this to my fellow team members, particularly new members. My apologies if I appear to be fixated with WCG charts. I am just trying to do my best to help WCG, and whip up as much enthusiasm as I can in my own team. |

Rick I would be interested to know what means the "poor level of credit". As I do not participate to projects other then WCG It is difficult for me to asses that. I suppose you mean in terms of Boinc point which is WCG/7. To give you an element of thought I have now 7.273.930 WCG points which boils down to 1.04 Million Boinc points for a total Runtime of 5 years and 264 days. Let's say a ratio of 497.8 points/day. Could you give us some elements of comparison. ![]() |

Hi Hypernova.
----------------------------------------It would be very easy to double your daily BOINC credits, simply by switching to, say, Cosmology@Home, or Seti@Home. Some projects use GPUs rather than CPUs, such as Milkyway@Home. This is a much more efficient use of computer usage, and you could expect at least a tenfold increase in your daily output. This is why I try to persuade my members to stick to WCG with every possible inducement I can muster. I used to be a "credit hog", running the projects with the highest credit possible. I now find that I get more satisfaction crunching for WCGs humanitarian projects, and I try to persuade others to do likewise. Rick. Points, Badges etc. are fun and I love competition, probably it is even too visible. But all this remain secondary. For me the choice of projects for which I contribute CPU time and "money" must give me the feeling that I am contributing to improve the lives of people in a focussed way. I do regret that I cannot use at the moment for WCG a pretty high GPU crunching capacity I already have: Geforce Matrix, Geforce GTX 285, Geforce GTX 280, 3 X GTX 260, Gforce 9800 GX2 etc. They have all together an impressive aggregate crunching power in the many Teraflops. It is frustrating not to be able to use all those boards.
----------------------------------------Other projects which correspond to my criteria like Malariacontrol also are not available with GPU compatibility. The only one I see that could be eligible for me with GPU is The Lattice Project but which I find a little to generic. So I will have to wait until I will be able to deploy the full power of my system. In the meantime crunch crunch crunch....... ![]() |
