My team has a "Type" of "Unclassified" since it doesn't fit in to any of the preset choices. I wonder if some other types might be added, like for my case: "Geographical Region".
I posted this suggestion a while back, but since there haven't been any changes, I thought I'd be a pain and ask again! Thanks much! |

Do you mean geographical region just within country?? That could be overkill.
----------------------------------------Check out these lists of regions just within the United States and see what I mean. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regions_of_the_United_States In Upstate New York, I like "Burned-over District" and "Borscht Belt". It is probably fairly far down on the priority list, since several projects are coming and going. ... a thought posted last time ... This has been requested already. I'm not sure when it will be implemented. It is too bad that you can't use "Retsof", a small town in upstate New York with a flooded salt mine. The Genesee and Wyoming Railroad used to go there.

Actually, what I meant was, adding to the list of "type" of team. If you are the administrator of a team, you can select a "type".
The current choices are: Company Primary School Secondary School Junior College University or Department Government agency My idea was to to add "Geographic region" since it's sort of generic and might apply to many current unclassified teams. An alternative might be "Location". Other type you might add: "Interest Group" or "Organization" I admit I'm not a coding expert, but I wouldn't think that would take much effort to add in. I could be wrong. I am sure that there are a lot of important high-priority things going on at WCG. Nevertheless, less critical things like this happen all the time too. Like Facebook and Twitter apps, for instance. Not that I'm not good with that, but, they aren't all so critical either. |

Not that I'm not good with that, but, they aren't all so critical either. I am in the U.S., but am the captain of a team with a British sponsor. Things could get very confusing. I admit I'm not a coding expert, but I wouldn't think that would take much effort to add in. It seems simple on the surface. My guess is that they do not want to diverge too much from the team type choices in the standard BOINC interface.Since WCG is missing some, then I'd think that you have a point. The interface here is a bit home grown due to the previous United Devices interface being an option. Here are the types from one of my other teams on a pure BOINC project: None Company Primary School Secondary School Junior College University or department Government agency Non-profit organization National Local/regional Computer type Social/political/religious -- Edited for some factual corrections - nelsoc

I do not understand these constraints except if they are historical. But there are new versions of BOINC so my point here is that apart from some standard predefined classes for team Types and also for Device configurations were only 4 types are possible, there should be the possibility to have types User Defined. It is up to the user to name them. The list of types will increase as you will have multitudes of them.
----------------------------------------Managing is not difficult even if you have thousands of them. Just give the possibility to list and search for them or add one. In this way others may use them if convenient. But I know that IT resources are very limited and so I can very well live happily with what we have. ![]() ![]() |

We try to keep the team types the same as BOINC. We'll look to update ours for the new ones they've added.
