Can somebody explain to me (in English please; I don't understand half of the terminology on these boards) how HCMD phase 2 works, what progress we've made thus far, and how to tell what my computer is analyzing when I view graphics?
I'm really interested; my friend has Muscular Dystrophy and he can only move his hands and parts of his wrist. It's hard for him to even wash his hands without help. I'm sure he'd be interested to watch how the disease actually operates inside of him. Thanks! |

I am not a scientist or associated with this project other than as a cruncher so if anyone would like to correct/ clarify please do so, keeping in mind that I am trying to present this from a layman's perspective.
----------------------------------------These experiments are not testing drugs or other treatments directly against MD. We are working on how the low level building blocks (proteins) interact with each other so that in the future we can use this information to better target research into creating medicines. While we may still be a long way from treating/ curing MD, we are working hard paving the way for that future to happen. What you see on your screen is the software trying different ways to fit two proteins together. HCMD Phase 2 is trying these interactions for 2200 proteins from both a physical and chemical perspective. The better they fit together the more likely it is that they will also in the real world and is an indicator of which proteins should be investigated further. Of the 2200 proteins being analyzed, 200 were chosen by medical research groups associated with the project because the proteins are believed to be involved in nueromuscular diseases, 200 they think might have something specifically to do with MD, and the final 1800 they think are interesting enough in general to see if they can help provide valuable information. For reference you can read the official paper here. http://www.ihes.fr/~carbone/HCMDproject.htm [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 27, 2009 12:11:57 PM] |

These status pages are hosted on a university site and apparently they are using this holiday period to do some maintenance (or to save electricity
---------------------------------------- ).The latest status I have seen was 9.49 % on December 16, so we should have passed the 10 % bar now. And we have started crunching batch 257 as far as I can see. Cheers. Jean. PS: The HCMD2 links are from the Decrypthon/HCMD2 Project team. WCG's Decrypthon team itself has no site, only the team thread shown in my signature. And it is a little quiet these last days. ![]() |
