in the past couple of months I have seen at least once per week where tasks are being downloaded to my queue with due dates that are more recent than the ones already in the queue. This results in them never being done because the active tasks wind up in the middle of the queue and always seeks the next one down the list, and never seeks any older ones. ( or to the TOP of the list.) I am only running WCG tasks and using client 6.10.18 on Vista 64.
What's going on with this, and can I automate a workaround? |

Generally, all the WU's have a 10 day timelimit - that is, unless you're picking up "repair jobs" (i.e., jobs that have either been aborted or errored out in some way by another cruncher). These repair jobs have a timelimit that's much shorter than normal (typically four days I believe). It could well be these which you're seeing - and BOINC should automatically process your queue in such a way as to manage all the WU's so that they'll be returned in time.
----------------------------------------In your Results Status page, have you got any WU's that are reportedly either "Too Late" or "No Reply"?, if so, could you provide this information, along with what else you've got in your queue so that further investigation can be carried out... ![]() |

vanster, the client works on the basis of First In First Out unless there is a deadline issue. Than these short deadline tasks will be moved to the front off the queue, all automatic. BOINC re-calculates the scheduling almost on a continuous basis so you should not have to worry about them. They'll get their turn.
----------------------------------------Yes, repair jobs, because that's what they are have a 40% deadline of the original, which is presently for all regular projects 10 days. The fact that you get them indicates that you're returning work in less than 4 days from receipt. Over 90% of the WCG work get returned in that time frame.
