CPU Upgrade

Just upgraded my Duel core to a Quad core CPU.
What do I need to do to get 4 things going instead of two?
Or will the manager fix it when my current projects are done?

Re: CPU Upgrade

In your Boinc computing preferences tell it to use 4 processors......just adjust in accordance with how many cores/threads you have smile

If you JUST started, it may take a minute or two before you get 4 concurrent tasks. Otherwise:

My Grid --> Device Manager --> Default:

at most use 4 processors (and preferably 100%).

Re: CPU Upgrade

Can't remember but would it not be 8 if it's a HT enabled rig?

Re: CPU Upgrade

In your web profile enter a high number (16 or more) in the number of processors in case you use version 6.2.28 or any other version which uses this parameter. BOINC will not start more tasks than the real number of available crunching threads.

More important since it is the parameter which is used in all more recent versions, make sure that "On multiprocessors, use: xx % of processors" is set at 100 %, not 99.99 or anything less.
Don't forget to set your local preferences to this value too if you are using them.

If BOINC does not start the expected number of concurrent tasks, force a benchmark and post the start of your message log in your next post.

Cheers. Jean.
