Right. So the space alien-themed recruitment attempt failed twice, so we (yes, there are three of us) have decided to rename the team "The Dodecahedron Club." It is a club for multi-sided, sophisticated individuals only. Simple minded crunchers will be turned away with a snotty dismissiveness...

Hi TrouserCloud For the uninformedA dodecahedron is a Platonic solid composed of twelve pentagonal faces, with three meeting at each vertex. It has twenty vertices and thirty edges. Its dual polyhedron is the icosahedron. Canonical coordinates for the vertices of a dodecahedron centered at the origin are {(0,±1/φ,±φ), (±1/φ,±φ,0), (±φ,0,±1/φ), (±1,±1,±1)}, where φ = (1+√5)/2 is the golden mean. Five cubes can be made from these, with their edges as diagonals of the dodecahedron's faces, and together these comprise the regular polyhedral compound of five cubes. The stellations of the dodecahedron make up three of the four Kepler-Poinsot solids. The face angle of a dodecahedron is approximately 116.565 degrees. The area A and the volume V of a regular dodecahedron of edge length a are: The term dodecahedron is also used for other polyhedra with twelve faces, most notably the rhombic dodecahedron which is dual to the cuboctahedron and occurs in nature as a crystal form. The normal dodecahedron is sometimes called the pentagonal dodecahedron to distinguish it. The 20 vertices and 30 edges of a dodecahedron form the basic map for a computer game called Hunt The Wumpus. Especially in roleplaying, this solid is known as a d12, one of the more common Polyhedral dice. If each edge of a dodecahedron are replaced by one ohm resistors, the resistance between opposite vertices is 7/6 ohms, and 19/30 ohm between adjacent vertices. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 18, 2005 12:20:26 PM] |

That’s quite a leap you made there, TrouserCloud. Here's another definition of the Dodecahedron, Graham: A twelve sided polygon. It symbolizes the perfect dynamic harmony of the universe which is seen as a matrix of cohesive vibrating energy fields in which the unity of all things manifests itself. It is analogous to the theoretical views of contemporary quantum physics and traditional Eastern philosophies. A newly hypothesized cosmological model has been proposed which asserts the space is actually not infinite and flat as is currently believed, but actually finite and shaped like a dodecahedron. Is it safe to say that you are seeking to attract highly educated individuals who share an interest in theoretical physics, mathematics, oriental philosophy, and space aliens? Is that why you didn’t just come out and say it? ![]() Aha! Now I get it. Your goal is to enlist members so that one day you can harness the power of the WCG to devise a new Rorschach test for space aliens using Hubble photos? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 18, 2005 12:56:20 PM] |

Thanks muchly for the use of the graphic. I and twelve-sided people around the world wholeheartedly appreciate it. Sure. Just make sure to return it when you're done. ![]() If you really want to attract new members, TrouserCloud then post, post, post. That way people will know your team is around. Let them see if there is something unique to your team that they might have in common with the rest of your members. I.e., the MOT team members all graduated from Pollyana U. While the TW members were all busy trying to figure out a way to blow the place up. Welcome aboard & good luck, guys. Bump ![]() |
