I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and my CPIDs have still not lined up. I am now going to all of my projects manually and merging the duplicate hosts. I can't do that with WCG though. Or can I?

So how do I get the CPIDs to line up? I had the same problem a few years ago and everything lined up okay, but this time it is much different. Not sure what is the hold up here!

Hello Gerry Rough,
CPID propagation is not something I know about, but Ingleside posted about it recently answering an inquiry. I'll use Search to find it. Here it is: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,27948_offset,0#257708 Lawrence |

Was convinced until this moment that host merging at project level and CPID alignment were entirely unrelated functions, but allah, never too old to learn... though I still don't see the relationship. Active projects that all have the same email address registered will align fairly quickly. With projects that are out of or overworked, it can take a little longer, if left to do this entirely by itself.
----------------------------------------Automatic device merging (reuse old device ID) does work at WCG and 10 days or so ago I was entirely awed to see it at work, simply by naming the device in the clean OS the same as before and assigning the same IP on the WLAN and only when satisfied, install a new client [did restore prior to that the old data_dir!]. It's about what's transmitted on first contact!

If the former, using same email-address, and having a connection between projects is enough. For host_cpid on the other hand, merging hosts will be neccessary, so you don't have an extra computer showing-up in the stats having most of the credit in a single project or something, while all other projects uses a different cpid... Automatic device merging (reuse old device ID) does work at WCG and 10 days or so ago I was entirely awed to see it at work, simply by naming the device in the clean OS the same as before and assigning the same IP on the WLAN and only when satisfied, install a new client [did restore prior to that the old data_dir!]. Well, I'm apparently breaking it, since I've managed getting 3 new host_id's from WCG this year for the same computer... ![]() ![]() "I make so many mistakes. I think your language area is somewhat located on a different planet, so no surprises there either ... on mine when we speak of BOINC's CPID we speak of the one that rolls up the different project accounts.

What I meant was CPID, not host ID. But then again, what I want is to line up the CPIDs so that all of my credit ends up on the same hosts, and not on duplicate hosts. Your posting suggests that this is host ID related, but experience has taught me that CPID gets rid of duplicate hosts. Perhaps I was mistaken
I had the same problem with CPID awhile back, and when CPIDs lined up, so did the stats. That is what I am looking for. I have speculated that rejoining SIMAP might do the trick since I was with that project when I upgraded. In any case, how do I get my stats to line up? This time things are different than what I experienced before. I suspect it might be WCG related since I cannot merge hosts here, but I really don't know that for sure. |

As an addition to the above, I went to my grid page and then went to my device profiles page. The one host that is odd is the one host that is not lining up with my other hosts, host X13-04655. For WCG, it seems that this host has a different device profile than the others. I didn't change it, it seems to have changed itself. Do remember that I upgraded to Win 7, so that is when things went south. How do I get my device profile back to where it was, the default profile? It is now a home profile. The drop down menu to change the profile does not give me the option of changing profiles, it just has the default profile without the home profile listed. |

Gerry,Do you mean that when you select "Device Manager", then click on the device name you want to change you don't see "Default" in the drop down list of profile names on the "Current Assigned Device Profile" line? |
