Hello All,
----------------------------------------I recently obtained a server (IBM Netfinity 5100) that I want to use solely for WCG. It is from 2000, and has two 733 mhz processors. I know that's pretty slow, but I think it would still be worth my while- no? I know compared to contemporary machines, that is amazingly slow, but it could still do some significant computation. Now, if only I can get it to see the SCSI HDDs! Also, would you guys recommend me using Windows Server 2003 or Ubuntu Server Edition 8.04LTS for BOINC- or does it not make much of a difference (what I'd guess.) Nick ![]() |

Doesn't matter which OS you use...you can even use Ubuntu Desktop version if you want on a machine like that.
Tip on hard drives. Look up serveraid. I bet your drives are set up as a raid at one point or need to be on the server. -Uplinger |

Thanks Guys!
----------------------------------------Uplinger, this is my first server, and all I had to do was move the cable from the RAID to the SCSI- thanks! One core is up, but now I realized I need another VRM to get the other core working- go figure. Thanks Again, and BOINC on! ![]() |
