When WCG can support GPU computing? Computing projects with the cpu too slow, and when wcg to support GPU? Hope for an early realization of GPU computing. [Edit 1 times, last edit by lhw828 at Nov 24, 2009 10:01:17 AM] |

Is this good enough to start GPU programming? No. And if you don't take time to read other member's posts people will not take time to read yours... 1. From Sekerob's post just above yours: If you have more questions, please post them in any of the preexisting GPU/CUDA discussion threads. 2. In these other threads you could read that this issue is far from being purely technical. And even on the technical side alone, emergence of new players and/or new development platforms might be a possible reason for developers to wait for seeing which one takes the lead in order to avoid choosing an environment which might become obsolete sooner than desirable for efficiency reasons. |

The link above points me to FightAIDS, where the only info for gpu computing hints to HCC, so GPU talk is allover the place. Plus, where I've posted the info is in a Suggestions thread, not a 'specific' project. 2.If everybody is going to see who is going to take the lead, knowbody is going to do nothing. It makes you wonder why fah is so ahead of everybody, crunching on different types of architectures (ps3, gpu and cpu). Regarding the new players and/or platforms, I thought that this was all the point of having OpenCL, to be compatible with everything. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by cristipurdel at Dec 22, 2009 1:46:34 PM] |

cristipurdel, you now have posted the 1472nd post on this subject and guess what the answer is still the same as it was years ago: Not yet, so you have to wait.
You sound as if you want to take the lead on this project. Are you volunteering to donate your time to do the programming? That would be a great start if you are. Your post sounds to me like you might have extensive expertise in this difficult programming so you could be a big addition to the staff. Part of the reason that it has taken so long to support this at WCG is that there are so few skilled technicians on the programming; the rest of the reason is that the majority of the scientific applications in WCG need CPU processing. But if all you wanted to do was ask a question, then it has been answered hundreds of times already and now you can be satisfied that the experts have it under control. |

I thought that this was all the point of having OpenCL, to be compatible with everything. How can you begin to expect something with such limited market penetration as OpenCL be 'compatible with everything' when we can not even get a browser to be compatible with every website? |
