Stats & Cross Project Identifier

I've participated in around 20 projects, all BOINC, and all show up on my free-dc page normally, but I recently joined WCG and it came up with a different CPID. Can I get that changed to what it should be? Or what happened that it's different?

I'm using the same email address for all projects...

Any help or ideas would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

Hello NekdDrgn,
I don't use the CPID myself, so I only have a vague, foggy notion of what is going on. The WCG CPID is the most recent one, so I think it will slowly propagate to all your other projects, unless you fiddle with your settings on another project. Then that CPID will slowly propagate. The whole process might take several days to settle down.

For myself, I would sit and do nothing. Perhaps everything will resolve itself automatically. Of course, I have admitted that I am ignorant. smile

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

To not constantly get a new CPID as users joins new projects, the oldest CPID should propagate to all projects, as long as there's a connection to all projects. The easiest is to just keep one computer attached to all projects, and as long as they're making regular scheduler-requests to all projects, the CPID should "synch-up" in a couple days.

To speed-up things, you can manually issue an update to all the projects.

I'll try and be patient, but since it seems like the webpage only updates every 12 hours, and I'm not a very patient person, it may be a challenge for me ;)

Thanks for the responses.

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

NekdDrgn,

No need to wait for daily stats updates, in fact at project level it's irrelevant. Some projects have long time spans set before a client will follow the "talk to me and tell me you're still alive and interested to do more work for me", particular if they haven't got any work. Just do a manual update in the BOINC manager's project tab with any of your older/oldest projects and WCG to have My Grid > My Profile to pick up that oldest CPID. The client compares them and then forces the older CPID to be uploaded to the project with the newer. When e.g. BOINCstats completes it's update cycle your various contributions will consolidate.

I just looked in the WCG profile (the oldest BOINC project for me) and in the Docking@home account (the newest BOINC project for me) and both showed the same CPID, so think that all the later ones are discarded. Never tried to find out, but I've been for weeks detached from WCG and never observed at any 3rd party stats generator that things went out of sync i.e. WCG suddenly not being rolled up into my totals.

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

I got the CPID's to match up by playing around with a computer that was currently attached to another BOINC project and attaching to WCG...

Now my problem is with BAM... it won't add WCG as a project. Does it not work off emails? Does my username from there and here have to match?

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

For BAM to work with WCG on a device you first need to manually attach / detach to WCG on that client. Also the WCG and BAM passwords must be the same, and of course, you need to tick the box at BAM to always attach WCG to any new hosts **. That's this page.

http://boincstats.com/bam/resources.php

Don't think the member name is relevant. At least mine is here and there different.

Edit: ** Just tried with a brand new system, clean 6.10.18 client and WCG already and still attached to the client. It happily registered with BAM and communicated without throwing fits such as detaching from WCG as first action. The message log of the client:

20-11-2009 18:13:31 Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php

20-11-2009 18:14:15 Account manager contact succeeded

No error messages, not on WCG side, not in client, not on BAM side observed.

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

I just attached the laptop to BAM and WCG was instantaneously added to the project with the right WCG user account, so things do seem to be reasonably well functioning.

21-11-2009 12:41:14 Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
21-11-2009 12:41:24 Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
21-11-2009 12:41:26 Account manager: BAM! User-ID: 4xxx
21-11-2009 12:41:26 Account manager: BAM! Host-ID: 1xxxxx
21-11-2009 12:41:26 Account manager: This host connected 180 times to BAM!
21-11-2009 12:41:26 Account manager contact succeeded
21-11-2009 12:41:26 Attaching to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/

The most pleasant surprising is that the laptop had a complete clean W7-32 bit install with BOINC 6.10.18, yet it recognized the device (same IP, MAC and OS device name assigned) and reported it had 180 previous BAM contact.

The first task assigned

HFCC_ s1_ 00604872_ s1_ 0001_ 0-- 95711 In Progress 21-11-09 11:41:28 1-12-09 11:41:28 0.00 0.0 / 0.0

The original device record:

95711 work 27-12-06

Very Very cwool.

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

I have had the same problem since I joined WCG almost 3 years ago.
My other projects, many of which I joined earlier, use one CPID and WCG uses a different one. This is despite having one system attached to all my existing projects, including older live projects and using the same email address, and usually the same name and team.

I would even detatch and creat a new account if I knew it would make give me the same CPID as on other projects, but I would not be able to use the same name or email address, otherwise I would just get my existing WCG CPID.

Does anyone KNOW how to fix this?
No random speculations please, this is one for the experts.

Thanks,

Re: Stats & Cross Project Identifier

Attach all your other projects, active or inactive to one of your active clients. Then start pushing the update button a few times for all projects and also in the menu to run a few BAM project refreshes. All clients/projects should converge to your ever oldest active project CPID. It's what you client perceives as the oldest of the active projects, not the one at WCG, but eventually the one you see in the WCG My Profile should update too.

How to get better help? Well the real expert resides over at BOINCStats, his name being Willy :D

edit: It can take a while as at Willy's site it also needs refreshing and aligning. Visit the BAM account, even the dead project I have is showing the correct CPID.

edit2: And what helps is to have at least 1 project that is attached to all your clients, not a must but it helps to sync all and keep it that way.
