On a networked PC, I can connect to the Internet only by entering "Automatic Configuration Script" address in the " Connections > LAN settings in Internet Explorer.
----------------------------------------As there is no option for "Automatic Configuration Script" in advanced BOINC settings, BOINC can't even attach a project on this PC. How can I connect BOINC to a project on this PC ? Thanks ahead.

The latest version of the BOINC client (6.10.18 at the time of this post) available from the BOINC download site should allow you to do this. You can get it from: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

I'm already using 6.10.18 precisely since I saw the "supprt all proxy issues" :) No it isn't...
----------------------------------------Here is the relevant info from my client. Next steps ?: ![]()

Would you please try a different project such as Docking@home. Just curious if you can get through without the enforced SSL that WCG has in place. Port 443, outbound has to be open for WCG.
----------------------------------------Edit: Also, you may want to add a number of debug flags to the cc_config.xml file so we can see where it exactly balks. See: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=proxy and the last troubleshoot section at bottom: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Client_configuration

Thanks for the reply.
----------------------------------------1. I don't have the "cc_config.xml" in any of the following folders(WinXP): A) C:\Program Files\BOINC B) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC 2. I can't attach BOINC to other projects as well, the same error as in the screenshot above. What's the next step please ?

okay, well not the ports then. Do set up the proxy in the options as were it not an auto-proxy and set the config parms per the help article.
----------------------------------------The cc_config.xml file is not created by default, so just copy past the sample into Notepad and save into the B) location and via the Advanced menu read the configuration file in. Make sure the .txt extension is not added to the file, then try attaching again and post what the log pops out.

Wow, that's kinda complicated with all the links you gave me(I think it would be best just to give the next person the complete instructions since by a chance I'm a Tech Engineer and familiar with this xml stuff). Let me get this straight:
----------------------------------------1) Inside "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC" I need to create a text file named "cc_config.xml". 2) Inside the file I need to put this: ========= <cc_config> <log_flags> <file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug> <http_debug>1</http_debug> <http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug> <proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug> </log_flags> <options> <force_auth>xxxxx</force_auth> </options> </cc_config> ======= 3) But, what should I replace the 'xxxxx' with ? I have no idea of my Proxy. just that it's in the Internet explorer looks like the "Automatic Configuration Script". So, is it either ntlm, basic or gss-negotiate ?

Well, you're about 95% there in getting the initial setup right. You only need to determine which of the 4 proxy types your network uses as described in as the Valid parameters: basic, digest, gss-negotiate, ntlm. More importantly though once the config has been read in, is what the log reports in debug messages to give clues where things hang up.
----------------------------------------Mind you, if your network proxy is auto and 6.10.18 set to auto-proxy, then it might never be able to get through. At any rate, you could ask the network admin what authentication is being used of the above 4 that BOINC knows about. Generally, if people run BOINC on company networks and need to get through proxies they have tech support and permission to run BOINC through their network or on company hardware.

I know it is not intellectually satisfying, but considering that you are blocked and how quick it is to
----------------------------------------1. update the cc_config.xml file 2. have it re-read by BOINC 3. force a project update from the Projects tab I would already have tried all four parameters. What do you risk? |
