Re: Not Funny

i appreciate HPF2 research and want to contribute in it, but i physically have no abilities babysit every work unit (not cause i have no time, but cause i access to it through another people). so this project is like a lottery good luck praying

i may run tests on this host, if needed, but i cannot ask other people look at WUs every day just because they can fail some time

and btw on this 2.0GHz machine average HPF2 WU length is 15-25 hours

RT is right, we are just crunching till the end thinking

Re: Not Funny

Truths about this project:
1) These errors are years old with no resolution.
2) None of the other projects have anywhere near the same number of errors.

I, like many others, will not run it any more. Too much waste of my resources. I suspect that many people have been soured by the project so it is mostly people that do not run specific configurations e.g. (quads on windows) or newbies that suffer under the delusion that this project will support them in their effort to actually make a contribution.

My limited perspective suggests to me that this project comes in second in 'Projects That Discourage Distributed Computing'. Second only to the United Devices mess of years past.

It seems that the project masters are just trying to run it to the end without putting any more effort into it. Hopefully that end is not too far into the future and will not send very many more would-be contributors to other non-WCG projects or out of the distributed computing world altogether. sad

Well said RT!

I'm leaving this project till its resolved if ever.

I was going to bring a few other PCs into WCG but I think I'll try a few other projects out there and see what I find.

As there are multiple projects active in WCG, so put more PC in and select those projects you like ..

I agree. I really like WCG and run all the other WCG projects. smile

Re: Not Funny

Unselecting HPF2 for devices which are hit too often by this error is the reasonable thing to do, whatever the ratio of errors that one finds acceptable.

For these devices there are enough other interesting projects to keep them busy.

And for HPF2 there are enough devices not having this problem for doing the job (check daily project stats if unsure).

If this error were simple to identify it would have been fixed for long. WCG is not bothering members just for fun or for convenience.

Re: Not Funny

4 of 4 BETA_HPF2 WUs are validated on the machine above (Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Web Server x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.00.6001.00))

BUT, i do not remember any "error in dock_structure line 401" error on this machine. It just crunches WU till max_elapsed_time _sometimes_.

thanks for responding to the issue

i don't even know if i have that problem smile

anyway you must avoid the old "grid" experience where the work was useless and so many crunchers were ignored
