Very huge task!

Bonjour,

Merci,

Maxime

Hello,

I've got one task (mt975_00001_9) that have only done 8 % after 11 hours when normally my computer does all HPF2 tasks in 6 or 7 hours.

Is somebody else have huge task like this one? Should I let i go or should I abort?

Thanks,

Maxime

Re: Very huge task!

I'd suggest restarting BOINC - as this WU may be one of those that, occasionally and without any explanation which anyone can find, 'gets stuck', and after a restart, resumes to normal completion...

Thank you gb009761,

That was the problem! Too bad that I've lost 20 hours of crunching...

Have a "good crunch" wink

Re: Very huge task!

Maxime, Glad I was able to help - although I'm sorry to hear that you've lost some valuable crunching time to this unfortunate/impossible to find bug.

Re: Very huge task!

Sorry Too. A little add on utility called RosettaView http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,20318_offset,0#166648, originally written for... [yes you guessed it]. It also works for HPF2 and any other WCG science for that matter. The function is to monitor progress in % and time. If stuck for the time entered in the settings there's a noisy pop-up. Able to monitor local and remote devices.

Give it a try. Works for me whenever I do a series of the HPF2 project. Not experiencing any of this on other WCG projects.

Re: Very huge task!

I am having the same issue but went to the link you gave but was unable to access the download page. Do I need to join or sign up for that site? Also not sure how I restart BOINC? I try suspending, the run away project and then resuming but it keeps on running with time till completion increasing.

Re: Very huge task!

While in Advanced View of BOINC Manager, File --> Exit nad when the popup asks if you want to unload science say yes. If you do not get the popup then the option to show the final popup can be found in the Preferences (I am not in front of a BOINC Manager right now so can't be more specific on it's actual location). The easiest way would be to just reboot the PC.

Re: Very huge task!

Steve WCG,
Thanks. I did restart my computer just after my post and it reset the elapsed time from about 24 hours to 2 something. A lot of wasted time. Any ideas on how to laod that program that prevent or warns of mindless computing circles?

Re: Very huge task!

1. There's an FAQ in the start here forum how to deal with stuck jobs.

2. It appears that the Rosettaview gadget/monitor is no longer downloadable which is a pity.

Re: Very huge task!

Yes it is. Any help to prevent wasted crunching is great. If at any one time even 1/10 of 1% is being wasted that is huge considering how many members we have. Any one know the person who originally wrote this software? perhaps they could be persued to up date the software!
